About Mark Wanner
At The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) I combined my academic knowledge of biology with my professional communications experience to promote a growing and changing biomedical research program and translate its discoveries for non-technical constituencies. I covered a wide variety of research areas, including genetics, genomics, cancer, immunology, neuroscience, computational biology, and more, requiring a wide knowledge base and constant learning. I also worked in the Research Program Development group, responsible for peer-to-peer communications and assisting principal investigators with grant and award applications. I find the research and its implications inherently exciting and seek to convey that excitement to a wider audience. In my opinion, the most exciting time for biomedical research to date is now, with advances in genome sequencing, CRISPR and other gene editing technologies, single-cell technologies, and other powerful research tools and methods poised to profoundly impact clinical practice. I am eager to continue communicating about the research and its potential.
