My role involves providing precision agronomy solutions to farmers in Ireland. This entails GPS mapping and grid soil sampling fields. From this variable-rate fertiliser application maps are constructed and recommendations are provided to the farmer.

Leading the field and laboratory research to develop a hedgerow carbon accumulation model for Ireland to better understand their carbon sequestration potential in an effort to mitigate climate change.Key functions of the role:- The establishment and management of field study sites to assess above and below ground hedge biomass, litter fall and soil organic carbon.- To evaluate the impact of hedgerow management on biomass accumulation.- Laboratory analysis to quantify biomass carbon and soil organic carbon contents.- Support the development of a model to quantify hedgerow carbon removals and soil organic carbon levels under hedgerows.- Technical reporting and dissemination of findings.

I was selected as one of two candidates by the Irish Farmers Journal and Macra na Feirme to travel to New Zealand on the Stephen Cullinan Scholarship. I worked on a 900ha grass based dairy farm milking 1250 cows.

My role as QA technologist involved carrying out internal audits, training and development of hygiene procedures, arrangement of laboratory testing of products, conducting and evaluating sensory analysis on the product range, updating and categorising product information on the internal system and assisting in the product production.
