Responsible for the financial management of the top two Brakes’ UK customers, with combined invoiced sales of £240m and growth of 20% pa. This role included: management of the open book charging mechanism and monthly cost reviews with the customer, identification of profitisation opportunities (impact c£3m EBITA pa) and developing enhanced analysis and reporting.Mark was also responsible for financial evaluations of all potential new Corporate business, building a P&L assessment and scenario analysis for MD sign off and pricing. Total value reviewed c£2bn.

Finance and Strategy Director of the fresh produce subsidiary of Brakes (#1 in UK). Responsible for all external and internal reporting, budgeting, forecasting, credit control, strategy development, customer pricing and IT in this £80m company. A key member of the Pauleys Leadership Team reporting to the Managing Director and Group CFO. Key achievements included: Turnaround - Developed the overall programme for turnaround of the loss making subsidiary. As part of the turnaround team, EBITA rose by c£4m pa.Working capital - Inherited the highest % debt level in Group. Over 3 years reduced this by 90% to 2nd lowest in Group, allowing the release of significant bad debt provision.Pricing - Mark was responsible for all Pauleys’ product pricing and tender evaluations. A new pricing tool and methodology increased EBITA by c£500k pa. Tenders - Built a new Financial Evaluation tool, and developed new and more accurate ways of understanding contract profitability, for the sales team to use to profitise the business.Strategy - Responsible for Pauleys’ annual strategy and business plan, all monthly reporting packs for Brakes Board, performance management framework and customer profitisation plan.MIS - Delivered project to provide a more accurate and detailed understanding of customer and product profitability, accounting for complex supplier and customer rebates.
