Planning OfficerSandwell Mbc Aug 2005 - PresentCouncil House, Freeth Street, Oldbury B69 3DeI am involved in a number of area based regeneration projects, which aim to improve the economic, environmental and social wellbeing of these areas. My main role within these projects is to provide the strategic policy input. Current regeneration projects I am involved in include the following;West Bromwich Town Centre Regeneration Phase TwoWest Bromwich has undergone a significant transformation over the last five years that has seen it regain its position in the Black Country as one of the four strategic centres and a renewed ability to serve the needs of local people, the wider population and the business community. The town centre development proposals are set out in a hierarchy of planning policy documents, with site-specific policies and proposals captured in the West Bromwich Area Action Plan (WBAAP). Although still broadly relevant, the pace and extent of change in the town since 2012 has meant that in some instances the WBAAP no longer reflects the current direction of new development or how the town can capitalise on new opportunities. The Interim Policy Guidance aims to address this issue. This document focuses only the Town Centre. North Smethwick Intervention GroupNorth Smethwick has been a neglected part of the borough for some time. Lying on the eastern border with Birmingham, the area has suffered from very little investment, either public or private for a number of years resulting in a poor quality environment with low-grade industrial uses in buildings, which have not been maintained for years. Buildings in the wider area are deteriorating, roads are poor and the due to the isolated nature of the area, the perception of crime is high. However, there is an opportunity to readdress the decline in this particular part of Smethwick and making this an area in which companies will wish to invest, taking advantage of the good links to Birmingham and other parts of Smethwick and the wider area. -
Project OfficerBlack Country Investment (Sandwell Mbc) Mar 2001 - Aug 2005Black Country House, Rounds Green Road, OldburyTo assistance with companies who were looking to invest and set up operations within the Black Country (Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton). I would assist the companies by identifying industrial and office premises that would be suitable for their operations within the area. I would also act as a link to the local authorities and othe local government agencies.Another key area was to look at indsutrial and commercial property trends within the Black Country. I would produce quarterly reports looking at the availability and take up of property with the area.
