Profile bio

About Mark Webber

I am an experienced group leader and manager currently based at the Quadram Institute on the Norwich Research Park in the UK. We are developing new technologies to understand the biology of key bacteria and applying this to different areas including antimicrobial resistance, biofilms and microbiome research.I have longstanding interests in the evolution of antimicrobial resistance, biofilm formation and bacterial responses to stress including disinfection. We work with a range of bacterial pathogens and commensals . My group apply similar principles to study these varied organisms and use and develop functional genomics tools to understand the genetic basis for success of bacteria in each environment. I have established an international reputation for my research and have published over 85 papers in peer reviewed journals and have demonstrated an ability to attract sustained research funding from various sources including research councils, charities and industry with whom we currently run multiple collaborative projects. Prior to moving to Norwich I jointly led the Antimicrobials Reseach Group at the University of Birmingham after completing a BBSRC David Phillips fellowship.

Listed skills include Microbiology, Antibiotic Resistance, Bacteriology, Molecular Biology, and 11 others.
