Profile bio

About Mark Webster

I am medically retired from Fire and Emergency Management and have found that there is a good life to be had without having to wear a Uniform. I am happy to be a small B boss back doing Natural Resource Management and getting the job done. I am back at the level I was in the middle eighties, only I can go home from work at the end of the day seeing physically what I - we have achieved. The rewards of my current job? We do stuff you can measure see and touch. We work in co operation with farmers, and land managers across land tenures, in 2 states, and have the capacity to make real on ground improvements to the health of the River Murray floodplain for all biodiversity. Even the fishers appreciate what we do.Still learning and by no means do we claim to have all the answers, there is never a one fix solution for all sites we repair. On going monitoring and maintenance is the only way to keep this program succesful. It is not a case of fix it and walk away. When dealing with Flood Plain MGT you are dealing with a dynamic environment, so static one off actions are rarely a solution. Yes sometimes we make mistakes, but thankfully these have been small and we have learnt from them.If you do read this you may notice in some of my posts an honest and deliberate attempt by me to not take myself to seriously. This for some reason inflames some aggression in people... The major reason I do not like forums is you can be misread...I worked from the ground to the top of my tree through passion, blood sweat and tears, and I paid the price. So yes medically retired, so if you see me trying lower the temperature on some of my forum groups I hope you understand. I save my passions now for less stressful pursuits.

Listed skills include Natural Resource Management, Fire Management, Natural Resources, Emergency Management, and 46 others.

We set the wheel in motion and fought the hard yards to begin the rollout of ICS training and application across the state.Started the process of modernising the QNPWS fire equipment and set the guidelines for Oh&S, PPE, equipment and management methods. The QNPWS has a great resource of knowledge and skills in the people under its employ. The job was to find the right people and get them focussed and then educating the others at a state level.Started to establish a co-ordinated approach across the state to how and when fire would be used as a management tool. It would have been a fantastic and exiting job if the funding had not been pulled after the Mundigburra Bi-Election.Once again the people I worked with made the job rewarding. Show less
