After 39 years of practicing law, I have made the decision to retire. I am still a lawyer, but will no longer actively practice the profession. Some lawyers choose to practice until their last day, or until they are no longer able to do so. That's not for me. I have too many other interests and plans. For now, I have left the information below for posterity ....Not so long ago, most people had a personal lawyer they could call for legal advice when they had a question or concern -- any time of day, even on weekends and holidays. Now, instead of that close personal relationship, in many cases, law firms have become impersonal businesses which are primarily focused on billing a certain number of hours each day. After more than 25 years of practicing law, I have established The Westerfield Law Firm so that I can provide my clients with the close, personal service they deserve and at hourly rates that they can afford. To put it simply, I want to be your personal lawyer. My professional background and experience is comparable to the big firm lawyers and, on many occasions, I have gone up against them in court and prevailed on behalf of my client. I proudly call myself a "Trial Attorney." Much of my professional background and experience has been in a courtroom representing clients. When we go to court, the objective is simple -- within the bounds of law and ethics, my clients hire me to win their case. At my prior law firm, Johston & Westerfield, we achieved an impressive "Win/Loss" record for our clients, including five verdicts or settlements in excess of $1 Million. My clients have ranged from individuals and small businesses to some of the largest corporations in America, including McDonalds, Safeway, Hilton Hotels, and AMTRAK.The Westerfield Law Firm is a general practice firm, with an emphasis on litigation matters. I have experience in most of the types of legal services that individuals and small businesses require when they seek out a lawyer. I do not believe, however, that any lawyer can represent do well in all areas of the law. If your particular issue requires a specialist or it is an area of the law where I choose not to practice, I will work with you to find a lawyer who can assist you.Specialties: ** In Virginia, lawyers are not permitted to declare that they "specialize" in a particular area of law. The following list are some of the types of cases I have experience handling. Personal injury claims of all typesCorporate and commercial matters.Business disputesContracts and disputesLitigation.Mediation/Arbitration.

The Association had a history of poor management and maintenance and the owners were uninvolved. In the course of two years, we conducted a "turn around" operation for the Association. Reserves were dramatically increased, A/R were dramatically decreased, and monthly assessments were decreased. All major vendors, including the management company were replaced and new vendors were vetted. We completed more than $1.3 Million in necessary major renovation projects and, in so doing, we gained consensus and acclaim of 112 high-achiever, high-expectation owners and achieved nearly 100% owner approval rating. In this capacity, I have managed outside counsel in multiple foreclosure matters, construction litigation and personal injury claims. Show less
