About Mark Allen
👋🏽 Hello! I go by Whit and I am a Communications Engineer at Enterprise Products.🎓 Graduate from the University of Colorado, Denver with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.🌇 A Denver to Houston transplant and I am passionate about radio frequency engineering.💻 For me Electrical Engineering is all about Radio Frequencies, Computer Hardware, and Programming. In school I built radio networks using Raspberry Pi's for robotics. These days I build and operate industrial IoT systems serving critical infrastructure.🚀 Someday I would like to work with robotics. Bonus points if it goes to space!🏔 On my free time catch me rock climbing, snowboarding, or working on my car.💪🏽 Radio Frequency Engineering (RF), Wireless Network Design, Data Analytics and Visualization, Leadership

Information Technology Engineer
Operational TechnologyMy experience with wireless communication devices allowed me transition to the newly formed Operational Technology (OT) Connectivity team. The OT team is a network operations group with the objective of maintaining uninterrupted network connectivity to critical infrastructure. We own and manage the 654 backbone devices that provide the connection to our internal customers User Equipment (UE). Currently the network supports 500k UE devices but is rapidly expanding to 4M+ devices across 6 states. The OT environment is fast paced and highly rewarding. I have new toolbox and a list of fresh challenges to practice on.Plan and execute network wide firmware updates to Wi-SUN Mesh Network while minimizing network impact. To aid in planning firmware updates I build tools in Python leveraging machine learning algorithms. Python programs can be reused to plan future firmware updates. Minimize future network outages by conducting root cause analysis and presenting diagnostic reports to management. Prioritize emergency preparedness by keeping plans up to date and organized resources ready for dispatch. Have deployed Cell on Wheels to read 10k+ billing meters within 24 hours of notice.Continuously engineer the troubleshooting processes and develop tools such as log visualizations using Linux and Python. Applications and tools require little to no training and are currently used by technicians to perform their daily tasks.Actively instruct Xcel Energy technicians to troubleshoot and maintain network equipment through a training program I developed. Including deriving the process, writing technical documents, and provide instructor led training to all Xcel Energy's 175 technicians. The training program is critical to Xcel Energy’s successful execution of deploying 17.5k backbone devices across the 6-state service area. Python, Machine Learning, 3GPP 4G/LTE, Wi-SUN Mesh Networks, VSAT, BGAN
Radio Frequency Engineer
Field Area NetworksThe two functions of the Field Area Network (FAN) project were to construct a wireless network capable of serving critical infrastructure and to facilitate internal customer’s deployment of User Equipment (UE) on to the Radio Access Network (RAN). Over the course of this project, I had the opportunity to leverage a wide range of Engineering and Project Management skills in the application of wireless network design, planning, construction, and deployment.Overhauled WiMAX wireless network design using Radio Frequency (RF) Engineering and RF Propagation Prediction Software to prescribe changes to RAN. The optimized network designed required 10% less base stations than originally planned. When implementing changes to the network, increased network availability to UE devices and significant improvement to SINR measurements.Handled the completion of 22 tower erections in substations around high voltage equipment over 6-month period by coordinating with construction resources and providing cell site development, construction guidelines and site acceptance documents.Assisted internal project managers deployment of UE devices by documenting the progress and communicating to stake holders through reports and visuals the installation of 1771 devices spanning my time with Xcel Energy.Wrote scripts in Linux and Python to implement creative solutions on devices, aided in database management, modeled data for visualizations, used GIS to make maps, and many other resourceful tools utilized by my team.Python, Linux, Spectrum Analyzers, Vector Network Analyzers (VNA), Infovista Planet 7, Forsk Atoll, EDX Signal Pro, IEEE 802.16 WiMAX CBRS
Computer Lab Assistant
As an Assistance in the Modern Language Lab I handled all the daily affairs of running a computer lab.Coached PC users of all levels of experience how to perform easy and advanced tasks.Arranged lab time for professors and classes.Scheduled lab employees .
System Administrator Intern
I worked with a Dev-Ops team responsible for network of remote set-top box viewing platform. I developed a process for network monitoring, alerting, and automating using Software as a Service (SaaS) and integrated it into the network.Linux Red Hat 7, SaaS
