I am proud of my career in labor relations. I believe few people saw as many views of the process as I did. I was an employee, a union member and officer, a union employee/manager, a first level supervisor and a manager. In addition to investigating (and thereby learning much about) a wide variety of situations involving just about every kind of enterprise, I participated in the process from both sides of the table, and from the middle. Mediation was probably my favorite role, as the result generally did not produce winners and losers, but allowed all parties to proceed by agreement. I conducted representation elections, participated in elections as a party, and then supervised the process, including making decisions as a hearing officer and later as Acting Regional Director. I was a subject of arbitration, an advocate at arbitration, and a witness at arbitration, in addition to official duties as a Federal hearing officer and manager of the hearing process. I trained many of the labor attorneys that have practiced and continue to practice in the Pittsburgh area. I am proud of the depth and variety of my career.
