Mark Wolfe Email and Phone Number
I've returned to LinkedIn after a few years in digital isolation. I was a long-standing LinkedIn member with about 1200 contacts internationally, many in Europe and Germany in particular, where I worked part time for several years in designing and leading study abroad programs for the University of Calgary and the University of Alberta. Trained as a print journalist, with extensive newspaper, magazine and corporate communications accomplishments and experience, I now produce movies and documentaries in British Columbia, working primarily with brilliant local actors and musicians. See my IMDB profile. We premiered our first feature-length film (www.theorchard-movie.com) In October 2022 (now in distribution) and in 2023 wrapped photography on Exophoria (see www.skimmerhornpro.com) My partner and I co-founded the Kootenay Film Society and we helped conceive and launch the 7th Siding International Festival of Film that is heading into its 6th season in 20234. In 1998, I won an Alberta Motion Picture Industries Award for Best Producer, for our short documentary-drama: Memoirs of a Western Newspaperman -- a piece that was broadcast licensed to WTN. I’m on IMDB and also maintain a website dedicated to my work in stills imaging: https://westwordcomms.wixsite.com/markwolfephotographyI had a productive career in academia, earning a Governor General Award nomination for scholarship, publishing various articles and book chapters on media theory and research, and authoring several large grant applications for projects of national significance -- including a 3-year study of the Alberta SuperNet, and a year-long evaluation of multi-point/format broadband videoconferencing as a collaborative research tool. As the U of C-affiliated Director of the Centre for Information and Communication at the Van Horne Institute, I did multiple media appearances on issues of national importance, and in 2013 I created and launched an annual series of Digital Futures symposia that for several years attracted national and US-based leaders and researchers in broadband technology and policy. Between 2014-18, I created and led several undergraduate study abroad programs that we delivered in Berlin, Germany and in Los Angeles, and where we engaged leaders responsible for everything from advanced VR and gaming applications to machine and artificial intelligence. In Los Angeles, I also had the special pleasure of working directly with the important philosopher Michael Heim -- an academic hero of mine and long-time virtual friend and correspondent.
