I am a high school English teacher at BASIS Shavano in San Antonio, TX. I teach Honors English and AP English, and I coordinate several clubs, past and present including a Chess Club, Academic World Quest, Creative Writing Club, Newspaper Club, and Assistant Basketball Coach. As well, I serve as an academic adviser to multiple students, and I work as a Question Adviser for BASIS.ed, helping to develop effective curriculum. As a life long student, I have continued my education over the past two years while teaching. Currently, I am enrolled in a MA Curriculum and Instruction program through Arizona State University, focusing on Gifted and Talented education. I hope to bring the knowledge I gain from this program to my classroom where I can incorporate new learning strategies for my students. Before BASIS, I worked for five years at two different universities as an English Instructor. Over the past ten years I have worked for three different literary journals as a reader, a section editor, and as editor-in-chief. I have helped copy-edit numerous academic and creative works, as well as technical writing ranging from civil engineering proposals to bio-medical dissertations. I have published over a dozen poems in both print and online media and have written and produced three plays.Before my careers as a teacher, editor, and writer, I worked in the service industry and as an administrative assistant. Starting as a waiter, I eventually moved into an assistant manager position which I held while completing my undergraduate degree at ASU. Then, during my first year of graduate school, I worked as assistant to the Associate Executive Director of the Graduate School.
