Mark A. Hutchison is the senior member of the Firm and an AV-rated attorney by Martindale-Hubbell®.A native Las Vegan, he graduated Phi Kappa Phi from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (high distinction) and received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Brigham Young University. Mark was also elected to the Order of the Coif and served as a Lead-Articles Editor of the Law Review. After law school, Mark clerked for the Honorable Kenneth F. Ripple of the U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago. After his clerkship, Mark practiced for the national law firm of Kirkland & Ellis in both Chicago and Los Angeles.Returning to Las Vegas, Mark continued his concentration in civil litigation, trying numerous cases in both state and federal courts in the West. Mark is admitted to practice and has litigated cases in both state and federal courts of Nevada and California, federal courts of Arizona and Wyoming, the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, the U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court.Two different governors appointed Mark to the Nevada Commission on Ethics where he served for six years, including two years as Chairman. In 2012, voters elected Mark to serve in the State Senate and in 2014 as Nevada's 34th Lt. Governor.Mark served as lead trial counsel for 10 years in intense litigation against the Franchise Tax Board of California, and in 2008 after a four-month trial, a jury returned a verdict in excess of $388 million in favor of his client--one of the largest verdicts ever in the U.S. in favor of a single plaintiff.Mark was appointed by two different governors to represent the State of Nevada as special lead counsel in the 26-states federal-court litigation challenging the constitutionality of the federal healthcare legislation.Specialties: Mark practices primarily in the areas of business and complex tort litigation, trust and probate litigation, and constitutional litigation.
