Mark Thornhill is a litigation partner with Spencer Fane. His practice concentrates on commercial, white collar criminal and constitutional cases. He is listed in "America's Best Lawyers" and served as Chair of the firm’s Litigation Section. Mark represents corporations, their executive officers and directors in securities and derivative litigation. In bankruptcy litigation, Mark has tried insurance, financing and auction issues. In the area of environmental law, his broad experience includes CERCLA cases, insurance coverage cases and the defense of enforcement actions.Mark represents individuals and organizations in white collar criminal cases and investigations. Mark's white collar criminal defense work has involved tax crimes, health care fraud, bank fraud, mail and wire fraud, and environmental crimes. Mark has been engaged by corporate audit committees to conduct Sarbanes-Oxley investigations and by corporate general counsel to conduct similar investigations. Mark's criminal defense and investigation clients have included Fortune 500 corporations, business executives and lawyers. Mark has served as the Chair of the Environmental Crimes and Enforcement Committee of the American Bar Association's Section on Environment, Energy and Resources Law.Mark represented the Kansas City School District for five years in its landmark desegregation lawsuit. In that case, Mark obtained court victories that secured critical state funding for the School District and moved the School District toward independence from the federal courts. Mark also represented a large group of Missouri school districts in an unparalleled case that abolished a discriminatory state education-funding plan. Mark represented Missouri lawyers and physicians in appellate courts in the famous "right-to-die" case, Cruzan v.
