Mark Barbash is the Director of the Ohio Economic Development Institute which provides training for Ohio economic developers. He is a lecturer in Public Finance at the John Glenn College of Public Service at The Ohio State University and in 2023 received the Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award. Mark is also a Senior Executive in Residence at Ohio University. Mark has a 30+ Yr career in economic development as a leader, manager and practitioner. His service has included public, private and non profit sectors, at the local, state and federal levels. He served as Senior Strategic Advisor to the Council of Development Financing Agencies, the national association advocating for development finance initiatives, education and professional development and training, Through his ongoing Consulting Practice, Mark has worked in non-profit CDFI and economic development organization strategic planning, real estate and business project financing, economic development training and keynoting, and new program development. Mark is a nationally recognized economic development trainer, creating and teaching courses in business and real estate development and finance, and neighborhood and community development. Mark’s career has also included Ohio Director of Development, Columbus Ohio Director of Development, Finance Fund, an Ohio CDFI / New Markets nonprofit, Director of Columbus Countywide Development Corporation (a high volume small business lender), Vice President of Miller & Schroeder Investment Banking, and VP of the National Development Council. His background also includes service in the U.S. Commerce Department and Senate and House staff experience. Mark's Board service includes the International Economic Development Council, the Ohio Economic Development Association, the Short North Stage and CATCO (theatre companies, Parsons Avenue Redevelopment Corporation (PARC), National Association of Development Companies, among others. In 2007, he received the IEDC Fellow Member designation in recognition of his high achievement in economic development.
