I started working at Amsted Rail as a metallurgical engineer in September 2013 where I was responsible for overseeing the multiple heat treatment types (normalizing, quench and tempering, flame hardening, and austempering).I was promoted to process analyst in August 2014, where I handled defect/scrap analysis and helped promote continuous improvement of green sand castings. During my time at Amsted Rail, I taught myself how to program in Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) and have created a few intricate programs that helped the organization track samples and first article/PPAP samples. I have also learned how to use the basics of the C and C++ programming languages enough that I am able to make external code libraries (DLLs) that can be used in VBA. I frequently use these skills to program automation software/scripts that make certain processes faster and easier for everyone involved. I am also skilled in SQL, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access), SAP, and Windows. I have a very high technical aptitude for computers and am able to learn things regarding them very quickly and easily. In August 2019, I was hired as a Quality/Materials/Metrological Engineer at DRiV Incorporated (formerly Federal-Mogul Motorparts). As a quality engineer, I am responsible for document control, and ensuring company compliance with the ISO 9001:2015 specification. I also hold management reviews and come up with an internal audit schedule for our internal auditing team.As a materials engineer, I answer frequent questions from suppliers or product engineers regarding the acceptability of alternate materials or coatings for automotive products. This includes metallic (ferrous and non-ferrous) and polymeric parts. I am able to utilize multiple resources such as ASTM standards, ASM International handbooks, Heat treater's guide, and other standards to help me with making decisions. I also perform various metallurgical evaluations on parts to characterize materials using various equipment including an optical spectrometer, hardness testers (HRC, HRB, HR15N, BHN), microhardness tester (Vickers), Cut-off saw, mounting press, metallographic polishing equipment, stereoscope, and an optical microscope. As a metrological engineer, I use various measuring equipment to identify critical dimensions on OE parts to help our product engineers reverse engineer them. The equipment includes hand tools such as calipers and micrometers as well as more sophisticated hardware and software such as a Keyence, 3D scanner, manual CMM, Polyworks, and Geomagic.
