Mark is a Partner & the Founder of the Education practice at UK & Ireland law firm Browne Jacobson, the market leading law firm in the Schools sector and the seven times winner of the 'Legal Advisor to Education Institutions' category at the Education Investor Awards. Mark, who was Browne Jacobson's Head of Education for 20 years until 2024, has been recommended as a Leader in Chambers & Legal 500, the annual legal directories ranking the most outstanding lawyers in the world, for over 20 years. Chambers ranks Mark as one of only three Band One Schools lawyers nationally and dubs him "a true leader in the sector" whose "commitment to the education sector is unparalleled". Mark is also a former DfE designated National Leader of Governance (NLG), including in the reformed programme, in which role he specialised in governance advice & support to academies. Mark is regularly invited to speak at national conferences including those of the CST, ASCL, NAHT, ISBL & NGA and he is a member of the All Souls Group, Mark also has over 25 years' experience of volunteering in education sector governance roles in the school, academy, FE and NDPB sectors. From 2011 Mark served for ten years as the Chair of L.E.A.D Academy Trust, a 27 school trust operating in the East Midlands, Lincolnshire & South Yorkshire regions educating over 10,500 children & young people. From 2021 Mark then served 2 years as the Trust's Vice Chair and he continues as a trustee today. Mark is also a Trustee of the National Association for Special Educational Needs. Mark has on two occasions been named in the 'Disability Power 100', the annual list recognising the 100 most influential disabled people living and working in the UK who through their example are inspiring others to achieve their full potential, regardless of disability or impairment. In 2021 he was named in the 'Education, Public & Third Sector' category and most recently in 2023 in the 'Politics & the Law' category.
