I am originally from the Philippines and am scientifically trained in South Korea where I am currently based and have been for over 11 years. I am a PhD candidate in veterinary biomedical sciences at Seoul National University. I have strong technical backgrounds in molecular & cell biology, biochemistry, chemical biology, and bioinformatics (comparative genomics). I am currently working in the lab of Prof. Je-Yoel Cho who is directing the Comparative Medicine Disease Research Center (CDRC). I am generally interested in exploring evolutionary mechanisms of disease pathobiology by mapping animal genomes and how we can experimentally manipulate them in tractable cellular and animal models. How does the disease initiate multicellular components locally, orchestrate the microenvironment, and collaborate with other distant organs, and how such interaction can drive their evolution and overall response to therapies? I use both experimental and bioinformatics tools to facilitate my projects. In the grander scheme, I am interested in exploring this biology across different animal species to unlock biological innovations in nature and translate them for human medical applications.
