Serial entrepreneur (co-founder of 7 venture-backed start-ups), inventor, 100+ patents (25 Issued US patents, 77 issued International patents, dozens pending), product designer (20+ awards including a Crunchies), marketer, and scientist (NSF grantee/PI). Mark has 25+ yrs in semiconductors, tech, retail, and biotech. He's founded 7 start-ups, raised 18 VC rounds ($250M+). Before VCs in a Van, Mark was a founder at Truvian; ecoATM ($350M acq); VP Mktg at Vativ (Entropic acq); Staccato (VP Mktg); BOPS, President/COO (Altera acq.). Prior to this he helped form and fund Power Computing ($130M acq by Apple '96); Panorama Designs (acq by Motorola '96); and BlueSteel Networks (2000 acq by Broadcom for $110M). Bowles spent 6 years at Motorola Semiconductor where he held various distribution management, sales and market development positions; he left Motorola in '96 as VP MSPI of PowerPC Market Development. Mark has also been a National Science Foundation principal investigator, grantee and researcher. He has been an active standards member of IEEE 802.15.3a, 802.15.4a, 802.11n; co-founded MBOA (marketing chair); WiMedia Alliance director (Liaison to China Chapter); key contributor to Certified Wireless USB; and Chair of DRF regulatory committee. Mark has been an invited guest lecturer on entrepreneurism and innovation at Duke, Stanford, UCSD, USD, SDSU, USC, Pepperdine, Hult, Wharton, Harvard, and Texas A&M. Mark is a board member and Sr Fellow with Pepperdine's Graziadio school of business and USD's Center for Peace and Commerce.Mark earned a BS in Industrial Distribution from Texas A&M, and a Master of Science in Technology Management (eMBA) from Pepperdine University.
