CURRENT and RECENT ENGAGEMENTS1. Assisting a healthcare startup2. National University Adjunct Professor. Developed and taught a Masters in Healthcare Informatics course 3. San Diego Health Connect (SDHC)- Successful management of a project (SAFR) connecting paramedics with EDs via SDHC's HIE. Grant goal was 10% of ambulance/paramedic runs would query the HIE for patient information at the scene. Actual results were 42%! Based on the results of this pilot, the federal government recently awarded California $16 million to expand SAFR including $1.6 million to SDHC- Previously, this 4.5 year engagement has included: overseeing the Go-Lives for Sharp and Scripps; facilitating the Clinical Workgroup; achieving business goals as interim operations manager;Scripps Health Enterprise HIE Mark was brought in to get Scripps unstuck and lead the evaluation team in choosing the correct solution. The system is successfully Live at 5 hospitals and a 700 person medical group. Adjunct Professor (7 years)Health information interoperability and standards is a broad and rapidly evolving area with no one textbook covering the curricula. National was stuck and brought Mark in to develop the course and teach. He later converted it to an online course and had students from across the country. Although not an easy course, student scores and evaluations were high. Previous EngagementsPersonal Health Records (PHR)eHealthTrust - a health record bank with pilot sites in Phoenix and LouisvilleMember of the management team which launched this patient-facing clinical bank. Lack of funding and pre-Meaningful Use (too early to market) launch caused the company to discontinue operations.Sharp HealthcareSharp did not want to get stuck when Meaningful Use was first being discussed. Mark was brought in to do a gap analysis regarding the new regulations and then lead the evaluation and selection of an enterprise HIE.

As Director and Regional Manager, responsible for 110-member support and installation group-hired effective managers, met revenue and profitability targets, increased productivity, exceeded industry standard employee retention measures, and began national training effort. Identified processing problems, then restructured the support group into customer-focused teams to achieve outcomes. Successfully managed a $55 million budget. Member of the executive management team leading the Flowcast division - 1,200 staff. IDX's stock price grew from $18 (1995) to $44 (1998) per share.

As Western Regional Manager, assisted sales in increasing customer base from 23 to 42, while customer satisfaction grew from 5.9 to 7.7 (scale of 10)-the highest in the nation. Created Strategic Checkup questionnaire for performing executive level client visits to uncover both customer satisfaction and revenue opportunities. Member of the original national consortium of 24 software companies which produced the "Support Center Practices Certification" criteria.

As VP and EMR Practice Leader, sharpened the value-proposition message for The Breakaway Group’s services for improving end-user adoption in the EMR space. As Director of Interoperability, managed a team to create cross-product solutions to enhance GE’s One Company Advantage and increase cross-sales. As IDX’s Product Manager of patient care systems, set overall market strategy, developed order communications, electronic medical records, care plans, and acuity. Specific knowledge of Carecast, Allscripts, and Centricity EMR (Logician).

As project executive, responsible for executive management of the implementation of inpatient clinicals at Stanford and enterprise front-end/billing at UCSF hospitals and clinics-on time and on budget, no milestone penalties invoked, and a $2 million bonus earned. As IDX's Project Coordinator for Sharp HealthCare, managed the successful installation of 23 applications and numerous interfaces at five hospitals and 14 clinic locations. Have been involved with over 30 other large-scale implementations.
