As a Functional Analyst with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs I am focused on requirements. I solicit and elaborate functional requirements for IT projects from business owners and other stakeholders. I ensure that all project team members (developers, testers, security) have a clear understanding of the requirements and obtain 'sign-off' from all. Finally, I manage those requirements through to project close out to ensure that what we have delivered is exactly what the business needed.This position demands a key sense of relationship management as there are parties from a variety of organizations within the department as well as with contractors. Being able to understand the business lines and their needs coupled with the ability to translate that into technical requirements is critical.The position becomes more complex when assigned to multiple projects as the lines of communication grow exponentially. Negotiation and mediation are often needed to keep project teams driving towards the documented needs and working together.
