As a Specialist Loss Adjuster requires a high degree of core competency in relation to the major roles of a liability and loss adjuster, being establishment of cause, quantum, policy coverage, and recovery. Given the specialist nature of the role, this requires significant expertise and experience in handling liability claims of a complex, technical nature, or significant magnitude. The role requires a high degree of verbal and written communication skills, good negotiation skills, and a high degree of knowledge of a wide range of industries, with emphasis on construction and primary industries. I have sound knowledge of insurance and policy documents, specifically public and product liability, and professional indemnity policies, and a developed knowledge of the law. I am responsible for assessment and reporting on claims. I act on behalf of the insurance company or client in determination of liability, provision of indemnity, negotiation of settlement, and recovery of costs. The work leads to agreement between the parties about the amount of the loss and the Insured’s, and hence the insurance company’s, liability for that loss. As an Insurance professional, it is necessary that I work to the standards and ethics of the company, as well as ensuring the clients KPI’s are met. My role requires a high degree of verbal and written communications skills, to conduct the activities including: - Interview, telephone, or correspond with claimant and witnesses - Consult police and hospital records - Inspect property damage and/or investigate circumstances resulting in death or bodily injury to determine extent of the Insured’s liability - Varying methods of investigation according to type of insurance and the circumstances of the loss - Prepare report of findings and negotiate settlement with claimant - Indicate if litigation may occur when settlement cannot be negotiated, and work with the Insurer’s and/or Insured’s legal advisors.

Handled claims for the Lloyds Insurance market on both delegated authority and an investigate/report only basis. Involved on the investigation of a full range of liability claims split 50% public and product liability and 50% employers liability with 90% being injury and 10% property.Was responsible for securing a contract to provide investigation and report services on all catastrophic claims for a major RTA Insurer and remained responsible for maintenance of that relationship including supervision and checking of reports and billing.Additionally undertook some disease work including investigation of deafness, VWF and stress claims.

Associate within the Insurance litigation department responsible for handling Defendant Injury litigation for a variety of Insurer clients including preparation of advice upon liability, quantum and policy issues and then handling claims through to trial or settlementExtensive advocacy experience appearing regularly in the High Court before Masters, in the County Court before Circuit & District Judges and also before Coroners.Subsequently moved towards specialising in Rail Industry claims acting for insurers of train operating companies and rail infrastructure providers. Was involved in the litigation arising from the Selby Rail crash, the Tebay rail disaster and the Hatfield crash.Handled claims brought by tunnel miners against the successors to the National Coal Board, stress claims, head injury claims and latterly a Manslaughter Prosecution brought in Greece against employees of a UK crane company which was dealt with under D&O cover.Involvement in the litigation in Greece involved liaison with Greek lawyers and ultimately several trips to Greece with the accused leading up to their eventual trial where acquittals were secured.
