I was then selected to join a team of 14 advisers working with FRS/City Pensioners around Florida as the Broward County Adviser. Two of us were doing all the work -- 12 doing nothing. Bye bye to the 12 and born was the core of The Second Half Team. Big firms want you to grow your business, but then say "NO" to every marketing idea to actually grow ones business. We butted heads every day on marketing/growth issues so I said wanted out the door and they said "there it is". GULP! Yes it was a little scary at the time, but now I've been free to BLOSSOM and help grow our business -- and we've done just that. Almost 10 years later we've grown from serving a handful of 1st Responders at 5-6 departments to 500+ First Responders (and more) at 200+ departments (and counting)! I should have left years ago and, while scary at first, it was by far the best thing that could have happened!UPDATE: As of May 2021 we are officially Second Half Financial Partners LLC with Charles Schwab as custodian of our client assets (where your moneys will be held). (termed out) I was Vice-Chair and Trustee/Board Member serving the interests and needs of Ft. Lauderdale current and future civilian retirees. I was then appointed to serve of Ft. Lauderdale's Police & Fire Board ('05-'12) before terming out again. I am honored to have been re-appointed to the $700million+ General Employees Board by Mayor Jack Seiler for a 3 year term (2014-2016) and was re-appointed for another 3 year term(2017 -2019) which has now been renewed and extended into 2020 and beyond.

I asked for the door and they said there it is. GULP! Looking back, it was the best thing that ever happened and I wish them nothing but the best. We have since dramatically expanded our business from a handful of First Responders at 5-6 departments to now 500+ First Responders at 200+ departments all over Florida. We have not looked back and in retrospect should have made this move years ago. Again, best thing that could have happened! Now, I just need "frequent driver" miles on my car! ;) -

Lauderdale's current and future 1st Responder retirees for 3+ terms. (termed out) It was there I really started to fully appreciate all the hard work our 1st Responders do on a daily basis. I also came to better understand DROP, 175/185, COLA's, disabilities, cities, unions, and boards working together towards compromises, and tons more. It was great learning experience on many fronts and if ever called to serve again it would be an honor to do so.
