Member of the GSK Vaccines Executive Team and the Tech Leadership Team, representing the needs of the vaccine product area.• From 2020 to 2022, completed the transformation of the Vaccines Tech function that delivered £15m of savings, of which £5m was reinvested in new digital technology skills to power the vaccines division in the areas of data and analytics, AI and machine learning, digital innovation, and process automation.• Sponsored the digital transformation of Vaccines R&D with laboratory workflow solutions to capture experiments digitally, data infrastructure investments to accelerate discovery and development, and digital twin investments to accelerate late-phase development and secure commercial manufacturing.• Sponsored a £46m investment in a strategic manufacturing execution system (MES) across the global vaccines manufacturing network to provide the foundation of advanced manufacturing automation.• Oversaw the completion of the vaccines laboratory execution system (LES) investment that deployed a digital foundation to QC labs across a global network of 10 vaccines manufacturing sites.

Managed the end-to-end delivery, maintenance, and support of IT applications and systems to R&D pre-clinical, covering human genetics, functional genomics, discovery, in-vitro to in-vivo translation, CMC development, and clinical manufacturing and supply. Successfully defined and delivered an organisational transformation to create a product-centric agile IT function.• Feedback from a key software vendor (PerkinElmer) confirmed that working with Research Solutions in an agile product-centric fashion had delivered the fastest deployment of a minimum viable product of an electronic notebook capability into an R&D user group they had ever experienced.• At the start of the COVID pandemic, took accountability for GSK’s IT contribution to the Cambridge Lighthouse Lab for high-throughput processing of COVID tests. Selected, configured, and deployed a Laboratory Information Management system into the facility in the space of 4-6 weeks. The facility opened in March 2020 and subsequently processed some 3 million tests over the course of the pandemic.• A key success from leading Research Solutions was ensuring that IT systems aligned to GSK’s data analytics ambition and strategy by ensuring data is accessible to be mined and processed for advanced analytics and decision making, including the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning.• In 2018, impact and excellence in engineering and technology were recognised with election to the Royal Academy of Engineering.

The group was responsible for partnering with the business to translate the business strategy and needs into an aligned IT investment strategy whilst containing cost and driving simplification.• Successfully sponsored the approval of key R&D IT investments to re-platform the human biological sample management system, deploy an advanced clinical supply chain ERP system, and mobilise the delivery of these multi-year investments.

Accountable and responsible for defining and delivering an ambitious ~£900m 7-year Manufacturing Technology Roadmap to transform medicines manufacturing. During the latter part of the role, accountability expanded to include an R&D automation group and an R&D operations and strategy group.• Led the Manufacturing Technology Roadmap program that industrialised GSK’s first commercial multi-stage continuous synthesis and continuous secondary tabletting technologies. GSK’s first enzyme-based chemical transformation and incubated various transformative manufacturing technologies with external partners.• Key role in establishing the Medicines Manufacturing Industrial Partnership (MMIP) in 2014 and represented GSK in this partnership and leading the technology workstream of MMIP. MMIP was established to represent and support UK medicines manufacturing and advise the UK government on strengthening and growing this important manufacturing sector. • Along with Andrew Livingston from Imperial College, led the creation of the Engineered Medicines Laboratory (EML) in 2015, a multimillion-pound collaboration between Imperial College and GSK. The EML explored a new approach to the development of medicines, where researchers from a range of scientific fields, including life sciences, physical sciences, engineering, and medicine, worked side-by-side on projects. This was a unique approach to pharmaceutical research in the UK.
