I led on media, editorial, and social for Addaction - a specialist charity for people affected by mental health and substance problems. In the first year our team of six grew media volume by 117% and led major national stories about drug testing, self harm among young people, alcohol dependence, and county lines. We use media to (1) encourage people to get help, (2) challenge tropes and myths about addiction, (3) campaign for policies and services that improve people's chance of getting better.Together we introduced a new way of doing stakeholder communications, with our Medium publication, Addaction Voices (https://medium.com/addaction-voices). We use it to build windows into our frontline work, to share what we're developing in service design, and to talk to the sector and to decision makers about policy.I also lead on issues management and introduced a national media training programme for subject experts and frontline workers.

I led on media relations for the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). QMUL is a global top 100 university, and is placed 9th in the UK for research quality (REF 2014). I managed media relations and reactive corporate communications for eight academic schools, including politics, law, business, history, economics, and humanities. I led Queen Mary's Polling London project (with YouGov) and the 'In Conversation' series.

I am a guest lecturer on the module 'Public Relations: Issues & Principles' (part of MSc Political Communication), where I present ongoing research on 'spin', politics and the media.
