IUCN and its Members are developing a policy on the implications of synthetic biology in nature conservation. Members of the Policy Development Working Group were appointed by the IUCN President in October 2023. The Group is tasked with preparing a draft policy on synthetic biology and nature conservation for consideration at the World Conservation Congress in 2025.

Pest Free Banks Peninsula/Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū is a collaborative programme to protect and enhance biodiversity on the Peninsula through the widespread eradication of animal pests. Lake Hood Extension Project is an unincorporated joint venture established in 2008. The Joint Venture is in the business of residential subdivision and lake development.
