Management of all aspects of beneficial reuse projects, including R&D, process design, scale-up, project management, budget, regulatory compliance, managing client relationship, and finding end-use markets for reprocessed materials. Led environmental, health and safety compliance policy for company. Spearheaded $20 million project for decades-old stockpile of high—asphaltene refining waste for Baker Hughes involving the removal of 300,000 tons of acidic high-alsphaltene materials from one of their legacy refinery operations. As the appointed project manager, I first identified potential beneficial reuse applications for the material and began marketing them to customers for secondary chemicals. At the same time, I designed and installed an onsite thermal processing system to prepare the material for new applications. My objectives included overall end-to-end responsibility for technical design, implementation, personnel management, health and safety, and environmental compliance, as well as both corporate client and community relations. The result of the project was to divert a large portion of material from landfill to beneficial re-use, while cleaning up a site that had been a community health concern for decades. Identified major source of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) from automotive windshield recycling, and developed an ambient-temperature process to reliquify the PVB, remove glass dust and tint pigment, and reconstitute PVB into a clear, reusable sheet. Development and field testing of process for recovery and dewatering of oil from large lagoon complex in Mexico. Development of process for distillation of mixed waste solvent stream from biomedical process, with a specialty solvent recovered at purity level acceptable for reuse in the original process, and cosolvents purified for resale.
