Head Of Technical Evangelism
Mountain View, Ca
Responsible for driving adoption of Mozilla open web and mobile technologies among independent developers, with a particular focus on Firefox OS, Mozilla’s new mobile operating system.* Bootstrapped the Firefox Marketplace—the app store for Firefox OS—with app recruitment campaigns targeted at independent developers. With no budget for contests or financial rewards, netted a solid foundation of thousands of high-quality apps at a pace faster than comparable ecosystems (e.g., Tizen and webOS) where millions were spent on contests. Apps recruited directly by my team were higher rated than apps which came in through business development deals or those submitted without a Mozilla contact.* Recruited multi-platform game engines and app development platforms to support Firefox OS, including Intel’s mobile app platform and the Flambe game engine (used by Nickelodeon, Disney and Mattel).* Directed development of documentation, blog posts, sample codes, newsletters, videos and conference talks to educate and evangelize developers on Firefox OS and other Mozilla technologies.* Partnered with Geeksphone, an independent handset manufacturer, to create two preview phones for developers to build and test apps in advance of the release of the first production devices for Firefox OS.* Working with the community of Mozilla volunteers, planned and executed “Firefox OS App Days,” a series of developer hackathons with over 2,500 attendees in twenty-five locales around the world. Provided materials for the Mozilla community to host over a hundred additional Firefox OS developer events.* Set up web properties to gather feedback and support developers creating apps. These included a Transifex project to pair Firefox OS app developers with volunteer localizers, sponsorship of a Firefox OS tag on StackOverflow and a feedback forum on UserVoice.
