This was an effort to rewrite the core functionality of the Circuit City Point of Sale system porting it from a custom in-house distributed operating system, to standard POSIX platforms. This entailed automatic translation of Pascal source to C. Also the re-writing of numerous assembly language libraries. Contributions in technical leadership and development effort were highly praised by CC management. -
Member Of The Technical StaffMitre Oct 1988 - Jan 1990Mclean, Va, UsCommand Center Improvement Program. Integrated emerging secure operating system and database components to produce secure information systems. Prototyped a distributed secure relational database for military aircraft flight information based on schema developed by TRW. Prototype combined secure relational database on a network of Sun Workstations and VAX using B2 Secure UNIX and Security enhanced version of Sybase (SQL). Distributed communication achieved by RPC calls and SQL. Implemented secure GUI on workstation front end. Resident expert on formal security models. -
Computer ScientistNaval Research Laboratory Oct 1978 - Oct 1988Successfully developed a series of prototypes for Secure Military Message Systems. Prototypes illustrated application of a formal security model specific to the application. (Novel at the time, this approach is now considered standard an has been used to achieve EPL7 assurance levels under the current Common Criteria.) Provided expert advice to the DoD in computer security and software assurance. Authored numerous research reports and conference papers. Developed scalable formal specification techniques and applied them to prototype development. Presented research results at international conferences and workshops.
