About Mark Deloura
Mark is a games and education technology leader, and he believes in their power to transform the world. He has been a game maker, a game leader, and a game changer, in various roles from Silicon Valley to the White House. He has shared his knowledge and insights through books, magazines, and conferences, and has been recognized for his contributions to the game industry with the Game Developers Choice (GDC) Ambassador Award.Mark is passionate about making game development and computer science more accessible, more enjoyable, and a tool for everyone. In the early part of his career he worked at Nintendo and Sony, launching developer initiatives and making game platforms easier to work on. Mark then led technology efforts across studios at publishers like Ubisoft, THQ, and GreenScreen, evaluating teams and technologies, reducing risk, and making development more efficient. During 2013-2014 he worked in the Obama White House, driving games initiatives and K-12 computer science education efforts. Most recently Mark has been combining these efforts in his consulting work, finding ways to fund, build, and reduce risk for games for learning; helping push computer science education and digital equity policy at federal, state, and local levels; and advocating for a stronger, more diverse, and more stable game industry.At his heart, Mark is an engineer, always learning about new technologies and exploring creative technology projects that combine games, learning, and social impact. His Game Programming Gems books in the early 2000's, written in collaboration with hundreds of professional game developers, were translated into many languages and shared throughout the world. Currently, Mark lives in Seattle with his family, with a couple french bulldogs, and with way too many gadgets!
