About Mark De Winne

Mark De Winne is one of nineteen esteemed recipients of 2018 Ascenders Awards from the Type Directors Club recognising his “remarkable achievement in typography, type, design, and lettering”, and most recently a TDC Judge for Communication Design, 2024. Bringing more than 16 years of experience designing branding and communications for a diverse range of clients, Mark’s flair for custom typographic solutions sets his work apart. His commercial work includes the identity design for JJ Lin’s coffee brand Miracle Coffee, the redesign of SaladStop’s logo leading to their eventual global expansion, the rebrand of Singapore radio stations KISS92FM and ONE FM 91.3FM, and Janice Wong’s eponymous retail brand. His work for F&B client Plentyfull was awarded a Certificate of Typographic Excellence 2017 by Type Directors’ Club, New York.Most recently, a Director of Communications at Eight inc., a global experience design consultancy, Mark was also Founding Partner at Parable Studio, and Branding Lead at ONG&ONG’s Experience Design Studio. Prior to this, Mark was the Creative Director of Relay Room – a Singapore‑based, typography‑led design studio co‑founded with his wife Sarah. Mark holds a Masters of Design in Type & Media from The Hague’s Royal Academy of Art (KABK), after completing a post‑graduate certificate in Type Design from New York’s Cooper Union in 2012. As Singapore’s pioneering type design educator, Mark has previously taught at his alma maters LASALLE College of the Arts and Temasek Polytechnic, and organised multiple type design & typography education events under the “Letterlove” series, which drew over a thousand people in physical attendance. His font “Birra Pils” is currently on the Adobe Fonts platform and is currently working to launch his type foundry, Multitudes, in Q3 2024.

Leadership and client-facing Creative Director to a boutique team of designers and third-party contributors to leverage consumer insights that translated into branding and visual communication solutions including logo development, brand concepts, photography, app and web UI & UX, publication and exhibition design – for a range of government, culture, media and technology companies. These include e-commerce retailer Luxola.com (since acquired by Sephora), SPH Radio’s KISS92FM and dessert queen Janice Wong’s eponymous retail brand. We also executed typography solutions for print, exhibitions, brands and digital experiences with clients such as NHB, OCBC, ACM, NLB and SAM. Relay Room also led design education events: series of 17 educational and networking events impacting more than 2000 designers and creatives between 2011-2017, including Letterlove and Creative Mixer (I-S Best Creative Networking Event), which respectively brought international thought leaders in typography to share knowledge, and converged local opinion leaders in design, culture, tech and entrepreneurship to redefine creativity together.
