My role with Sailing Holidays Ltd. was extremely varied and over the course of almost four years I progressed quickly from yacht engineer to skipper and ultimately base manager.In the latter role, my reponsibilites included organising accommodation and transport for staff and guests, coordinating yacht deliveries and scheduling cleaning and maintenance of the fleet. I ensured that work was completed efficiently and to a consistently high standard during the short turnaround period with minimal impact on clients. I was also responsible for providing ongoing onshore support to staff and guests, answering and responding quickly to calls regarding itineraries, weather, engineering faults, accidents or personal issues.By adopting a communicative, patient and transparent approach I was able to ensure all guests, regardless of experience, gained maximum enjoyment from their holiday. Moreover, I developed an extensive working knowledge of the fleet of yachts, the local harbours, laws, customs and weather patterns. I also enjoyed the challenge of learning the basics of the local languages and customs, which I used effectively to liaise with authorities and business owners alike.

Following my sixth form education I sought employment in one of the largest restaurant groups in the UK. I was keen to understand the operations of a multinational company and quickly progressed from waiter to duty manager within 12 months, where I was tasked with running a brand-new venue in Derby City Centre.
