The Electro-Optics Center serves as a national resource to advance electro-optics and related technologies by partnering with government and commercial customers for the primary benefit of the U.S. warfighter.Serve as a pivotal member of the design and system team for technology advancement for the military and commercial applications to improve system component performance and contain costs. Systems include Automated Intensifier Measurement System used to test image intensifier tubes for military night vision systems; electronic sensor and power transistor, laser weapon technology. Initiatives saved the government time and up to $25M annually. -Designed and built a Monatomic Oxygen Generator used to simulate low earth orbit atmospheric conditions to test the effect on telescope silicon carbide mirrors for the Missile Defense Administration. -Led the successful redesign of a Raman Spectroscopy system for material characterization; developed a non-contact process for in-situ temperature measurement of high-power RF transistor gates. -Assessed thermal characteristics of several materials, device packages, and heat sink designs.-Automated novel crystal growth processes using LabVIEW graphical programming to enhance the stability, repeatability, and throughput potential of each process. Efforts saved substantial dollars and increased system crystal growth throughput-Assembled and automated an RF device test station; used to characterize the performance of high-power RF HEMT devices used for military communications that normally would have run manually. Automated and optimized devices saved the military substantial time and dollars.-Performed characterization and failure analysis of Laser Diode packages. -Assessed performance of lasers, improved thermal management, identified failure modes, strengths, and weaknesses of laser diode packages.

Engineering of glass container forming systems with approximately 20 employees.Handled the engineering and design of new glass container forming products for manufacturing, keeping cost, marketability, longevity, and ease of production in mind. Led the process from concept, design of new product, testing of prototypes, and then handed off design to machinists for production. As needed, assisted manufacturing with the machining and production of glass forming equipment components. Conducted research to improve existing products and to retrofit products for existing machinery.
