Thankfully, my team, and our cohorts in Bosnia, do an incredible job of maintaining prototyping and experimentation, to ensure we get cool sh*t to people who matter.Ultimately, we perform 25+ product launches a year.Each of these is a fully tested solutions to biological and neurological performance issues and opportunities. So there is a ton of coordination with our C-Suite, Marketing, Design, Pre-production, Production, Advertising and Project Management.Thanks to our Robotics Lab, we also look at how we can manufacture complex products, using novel processes and technologies. Worked with the founding team to revamp the management structure, raise funds, evangelize the technology, test prototypes, promote at events, and develop PR and Media.Thanks to Chris McClary (my lead designer at eAgency), I was introduced to the inventor of Trikke, and the fledgling management team behind the product. A series of really interesting events help take the product from concept to a true innovation in the self-powered and eventually, electrical personal transportation and sports markets.We made the cover of Popular Science as one of the years cool innovations. Made it into a Hollywood "it" toy around the movie lots (thank you Brad Pitt and David Spade!). People Magazine spread... plenty of good media coverage.CEO and founder Gildo Bileski is still leading the charge, now moving into electric vehicles for Police and security teams. Very cool migration.

I worked with a handful of technologists, web developers and Angel Investors/VC's to accelerate (mostly internet) startups during the end of the first dot-com boom. When I arrived in my office, there were more than 500 business plans piled up, awaiting review. Throughout the next 9 months, we worked diligently to create an intelligent, wired workspace for startups; provide VC and Angel investor introductions,; review business plans and counsel startup companies, and engage sponsors for various projects to support the Southern California internet and technology space.From co-crafting the business plans, coaching CEO's and doing investor introductions, I handled every aspect of the TechCoast program.

Chief Marketing Officer. Responsible for PR, strategy, funding, investor relations, marketing presentation (graphic design and web development) as well as business development. Worked for the CEO (Robert Lotter), an exceptional leader and one of the strongest visionaries in the life insurance industry.

We developed one of the first ecommerce software applications for small business. Our software, written in Filemaker Pro with some really cool server-side javascript components (built by the brilliant Mark Middleton), and killer UI/UX developed by the equally brilliant John Harrison.Our software solved the low bandwidth issue of SaaS solutions during the early years of the internet. And we had a Freemium model (up to 12 products free, or $49/mo for 13-250 products.)I raised $350,000 from a single angel investor after burning through my own 6-figure investment. We did a number of strategic deals, including Kinko's, CameraWorld, LA2Nite.com and the Business Journals (nationwide).Our VisualCart™ technology was a powerful way to keep track of your shopping cart.And being able to build your website and shopping cart locally on your computer, then push to the web with a single click (and no arcane programming) was a major breakthrough in ecommerce for the everyman.MISTAKES: I should have raised more money from a more diverse group of investors. And I should have passed the CEO role on to our CFO (Tom Bland) who is a badass.TRIUMPHS: We built a killer brand, and eventually had great adoption. We solved the adoption issue by partnering with Camera World, and bundling our QuickyMart with digital cameras (so customers had a tool to get product images for the shopping cart).

My good friend and serial entrepreneur Eric Kinney and I launched an ISP while cleaning windows and talking shop. This became what Eric dubbed "Doolittle & Billum", a fictitious entity that did little physical labor, but clipped coupons (the very definition of a successful ISP). We eventually sold it to a builder who was super excited about the whole "interwebs" thing. He bankrupted the company within a year.

I was CMO, and raised the first $2,300,000 Angel Investment for the company. We developed incredible data compression and rendering technology that is (literally) the basis for the TV Show "Silicon Valley". I hired a former President from Intel, who was great for raising money, But really bad for running a startup. Thankfully, the first investor I engaged was John Wiley, the former founder of Supra Modems. John rescued the company, and we sold for $33,000,000 to InterTrust just as the dot-com crash happened. (In 2019, John became a customer of WebNutrients!)

I heard a radio show voiced by a PhD in nutrition from U0fO. I volunteered my marketing expertise in exchange for learning nutrition. A great exchange, that eventually became WebNutrients. Dave was mentor, friend and guide into HgH precursors and nootropics. An incredible experience, and the heart of what I do today at Nootopia.com

Launched an eCommerce Brand of HgH (Human Growth Hormone) capsules. Very early into the nutritional supplement market. Thanks to the founder of Scientific Nutrition, I learned what the supplement business was about. How to design healthy nutritional supplements. And he gained ecommerce, PR and Marketing in exchange.

Remanufacturing Mazda RX-7s and Pontiac Fiero's into electric cars. A great idea. A failed venture.

For just less than a year, I worked with an investor to create electric cars. Prompted by my former experience creating hotrod Mazda's, I tried rebuilding RX-7's and Pontiac Fiero's into high performance electric cars.Though we created one of each, we had to sell them for $10,000 each... while Kia, Hyundai and the used car industry+credit firms ate our lunch. We sold the two cars at a loss, and closed shop. (Side note: I was CMO of a software firm at the same time, and sold our software, and eventually, our company sold to Marc Tarpening and Martin Eberhard of Rocket eBook. They then founded Tesla. Coincidence?)

After a brutal bankruptcy, I found a cassette tape of a guy who built a big business by cleaning gutters. Since I felt my business was in the gutter, I followed suit by buying a high miles truck, a ladder and a pressure washer and gutter scoops. Within months, I had developed a custom postcard marketing program that resulted in a dearth of customers. I expanded, and eventually sold the business a year later.

We quickly became the world leader in laser display technologies. By developing a low cost, high performance scanner technology, we were able to dramatically reduce the cost of graphical laser displays for advertising and entertainment.Mentored by Wyatt Starnes (my cofounder and CEO), we created one of the most innovative and high performance small technology companies in the Pacific Northwest.

Ad agency focused on both the Laser Display Industry, and Fast Growth Tech businesses. I was also Co:CEO of a leading laser display firm, so this provided access to other industry leaders, and helped us all collaborate on growing the market for laser display technologies.

My laser technology company was acquired by O'ryan Industries, pushing us and them into hypergrowth. We became #387 on the Inc 500 list of Fast Growth Private Companies. One of my greatest goals at the time. We developed a handful of cool products. The company continues to operate as both a product development firm and creates the majority of love voltage lighting for the pool and spa industry.

My amazing big brother Doug and I launched a company with 4 different divisions. Rocklines Clothing. LID Laser Systems. Timelines watches. Basslines subwoofers. Of course, we didn't realize (at the time) that each business was more than a fulltime job. So, fairly quickly, LID Laser Systems won out (it was the hardest and most technically challenging. Which obviously meant success!). WE sold within 11 months of incorporation. It was a win for both of us, giving Doug some cash to invest in Apple. And for me, launching my first liquidity event and startup career.

Starting as an OSI Agent, I eventually cross-trained to Jet Aircraft Technician, working in various positions (my favorite being on a team that launched Can Birds when the Inspector General would make an unannounced visit). A great experience. I saved $32,000 during my enlistment, allowing me to launch my first startup.

My Step-Dad became the CEO of a Clinical Lab, and invited me to help launch a medical supply company within these hallowed halls. It was amazing, and helped encourage my own entrepreneurial ventures.

A startup machine shop showed me what precision, material sciences, engineering, and making big bucks was all about. Loved it. Changed my life.Thanks to Frank Kirsch and team, I learned to cut Titanium, Molybdenum, Zirconium and Halfnium at tolerances reserves for Military and Aerospace tech. Prior to leaving, we had an early CNC system. It was amazing and opened my eyes to the future of machining. I would often arrive early, and warm up the Bridgeport mills for the "old guys". They used a wood dowel against the machine head to discern how much lash, and the viscosity of the lubricant, so they could cut with better accuracy. The swing shift crew consisted of mostly returning Veterans from Vietnam. I learned a boatload from these guys as well. Mostly that war is not healthy for humans of any ilk.
