For more than three decades, Mark Meade has been personally involved in many aspects of the civil engineering, surveying, and geospatial professions. The first third of his career was dedicated to consulting engineering where he worked on environmental assessments, project planning, preliminary design, and final design for more than $3B of constructed projects in the areas of water, wastewater, transportation systems, commercial development, and structural design. The latter part of his career has been dedicated solely to the geospatial profession. More specifically, the majority of this time has been focused on surveying and mapping using ground-based GNSS techniques; airborne and mobile lidar; airborne orthoimagery; and photogrammetric mapping. During this time he has also served as a contributing editor and columnist for a leading international professional journal, and taught more than 120 professional development courses related to the mapping and geospatial professions to domestic and international audiences. Giving back to the professional community that has been so influential in his career has been critically important, and he has therefore held leadership roles at the regional, state, and national levels of the Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers, American Council of Engineering Companies, and the Kentucky Engineering Foundation. He was a founding member of the Leadership PE program in Kentucky, which serves as a national model for developing leadership skills among high-potential, young engineers in the state. He currently serves on the Civil Engineering Industry Advisory Committee (CEIAC) at the University of Kentucky, where he earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees.
