A college professor once asked me what the difference was between a software developer and a software engineer. I understood the principle - the developer creates with an eye on the present constraints, while the engineer designs with an eye on the future - but it took some time to truly let that sink in.Today, I engineer solutions. I build what is needed today, and plan for what is needed tomorrow. I build in small steps, incrementally, so each piece can be used immediately, and the whole fulfills the business needs. I build software to enable people; I build teams to enable businesses.I have built software across the application stack, from language parsers to UI components.I have built teams, by coaching Agile principles, software development practices, workflow management, estimation and scoping, and project management.I have maintained billion dollar systems, and built new ones from scratch.I have worked solo, in pairs, in small groups, and in large, distributed teams.I can build anything; but, more importantly, I enable people to build anything themselves.Technical Expertise - Back-end: Java, Groovy, Ruby, Python.
