Lead Developer for Reporting Systems. For Knights of Columbus, led a team of developers in the design, development and implementation of a Self-service reporting application that provided customers with the capability to define their own reports and launch execution themselves via the web. Previously, KofC reports were largely launched via ReportCaster batch scheduling software. This new tool moved KofC into the 21st century in terms of Business Intelligence capabilities. Development was performed using WebFOCUS 7.6, SQL, Javascript and HTML. Additional testing/analyses were performed utilizing AQT Advanced Query Tool and MS Access.For Knights of Columbus, led a team of developers in remediating over 400 reports to utilize the newly constructed Policy and Agency datamarts. Special attention was paid to reducing run time costs through coding optimization techniques. The most successful technique was instituting 'Common Table Expression' within the SQL code, frequently resulting in a 90% reduction in run time. For Knights of Columbus, developed a 'Best Practices and Coding Standards' document that served as the department's Policies and Procedures for WebFOCUS and SQL developers.

Leader of Corporate Information Technology Systems team that analyzed and retrofit 200 report programs and wrote many new reports from a new data warehouse source. HIG had outsourced various operations to an outside vendor, resulting in new data feeds to the company's new Peoplesoft data warehouse (EPM). The Data Modeling tasks were performed within a diverse group including IT colleagues and business customers. Report delivery was both customer initiated via HIG's intranet EPM Reporting site and associated Dashboard and Report Caster (scheduled execution and delivery via email.) ETL processes were managed via Ascential DataStage v7.5. Report programs were changed to access new ORACLE database tables, the major task being to retrofit existing WebFOCUS 7.1.1 and SQL code to utilize these tables. To add value, I streamlined processes, improved the organization of WebFOCUS-related constructs, redesigned HTML and Javascript parameter pages, combined like-minded programs to decrease maintenance costs and rewrote programs to utilize either WebFOCUS or SQL code to gain efficiencies. Additional testing/analyses were performed utilizing SQL Tools, SQL Plus, PL/SQL and MS Access. Ongoing tasks consisted of new report development as well as Production support for existing and newly outsourced applications.

Approximately 300 reports were reengineered and 20 new reports were written to retrieve information from the Oracle databases. Ad hoc reporting migrated from mainframe FOCUS menus and focexecs to intranet ASP and HTML pages launching WebFOCUS fex's. For the Commercial Lines Specialty Insurance division of Travelers Insurance Company, designed, developed and implemented a Financial Management Information and Reserves Development system containing revenue and loss balances extracted from several application systems. This multiple platform system was used as a tool for detailed analyses, product assignment and monthly reporting needs. The system was developed in FOCUS, MS Access, Visual Basic and MS EXCEL in the TSO/MVS and Windows NT environments. For the Health Care division of CIGNA Insurance Company, participated in the year 2000 remediation of an Underwriting Experience Ledger system. Analysis was performed on over 800 FOCUS programs, 300 of which were modified. Several databases also required remediation. All system functions were tested according to Corporate Year 2000 Certification guidelines and methodologies. The system was developed in FOCUS, EXEC, EXEC2 and REXX in both the TSO/MVS and CMS VM/XA environments.For the Health Care division of CIGNA Insurance Company, participated in the migration of an Underwriting Experience Ledger system to the most recent releases of VM/XA (2.2) and FOCUS (7.0.8). The system had resided in a CMS VM/ESA environment utilizing FOCUS 6.8 under EXEC, EXEC2 and REXX. Tested all system functionalities and made coding changes where necessary.

Utilizing FOCUS and JCL in an MVS/TSO ISPF environment, met with customers to formulate business specifications for a reporting subsystem. Responsible for ad hoc needs of all division management personnel. This system accepted data from multiple platforms, including mainframe, PC and spreadsheet files. For the Commercial Lines division of Travelers Insurance Company, developed and implemented a series of modules that produced selected unique variance reports for external customers. Utilizing FOCUS, COBOL and JCL in an MVS/TSO ISPF ENDEVOR environment, met with internal and external customers to formulate business and system specifications. Managed a team of 13 developers to build and support mainframe and LAN-based systems. Developed for the Financial Division, the systems had high visibility across all lines of business. The team was split into a support and migration group for the legacy mainframe systems and a development group for LAN systems, which were built utilizing Powerbuilder, Visual Basic, EXCEL and FOCUS. The LAN team's project resulted in a successful first foray into LAN-based systems for the Financial Division. Responsible for the complete administration of this team, including project planning, budget planning, employee performance reviews, hiring/firing and salary adjustments. For the Profit Planning and Analysis Group within the Financial Division, was responsible for the specification, analysis, design, programming, testing, implementation, training, security and support of a multi-platform Integrated Financial Management Reporting system. The system was designed to provide the corporation with actual / budget / forecast trend and variance reporting as well as the ability to input key performance measures and comment on monthly results. The system was developed with a Powerbuilder and Visual Basic front end, utilized the VM/CMS FOCUS mainframe engine for processing and Powerbuilder / EXCEL for results. The LAN operating system was Windows NT / SQL Server.

For the Profit Planning and Analysis Group within the Financial Division, was responsible for the analysis, design, programming, testing, implementation, training, security and support of the on-line Corporate Budget System. Utilizing FOCUS and EXEC2 in a VM/CMS environment, met with internal customers to formulate business specifications and designed 12 FOCUS databases. The system was developed in a SINK environment allowing multiple users simultaneous systems update capability. For the Profit Planning and Analysis Group (Financial Division), was responsible for the analysis, design, programming, testing, implementation, training, security and support of a Cost Accounting Profit Center Allocation System. Utilizing FOCUS and EXEC2 in the VM/CMS and TSO/ISPF environments, met with internal customers to formulate business specifications and designed all databases. Associated functionality included Unit/Product Cost and Product Profitability. Associated applications impacted included General Ledger, Product Control Volumes and Legal Consolidation.For the Product Development Group within the Cash Management Division, was responsible for the analysis, design, programming, testing, implementation and support of a Customer Account Analysis Management Information System. Utilizing FOCUS in the VM/CMS and TSO/ISPF environments, developed a user-friendly approach to accessing large bank customer account balance, revenue and charge information. For the Product Development Group within the Cash Management Division, was responsible for the analysis, design, programming, testing, implementation and support of a Liability Information Control System. Utilizing FOCUS and RDB in the VAX/VMS environment, developed this management reporting system that provided users with the capability to run and view reports in a batch, on-line or ad-hoc mode.
