This role has a key focus on project reviews (Tenders and Live Projects) project controls, claim development and the associated project management of running claims teams, financial reporting and validation of reporting for the ELT and the Board, I am also actively involved in lifting commercial capability across the Company, through supporting the development of our One Platform approach and enhancement of L&D initiatives.

Responsible for commercially supporting Tender teams (Bid Managers, Estimators and Engineers) and managing the handover to construction teams - Reviewing and summarizing Requests for Tenders (RFP) to identify Key Commercial Risks and Opportunities for the Tender Teams- Liaison with Legal, Insurance Brokers and Treasury – In order to the approval to submit Tenders.- Submit Requests For Information (RFI), in relation to commercial queries- Monitor and maintain all commercial agreements (with third parties) throughout the Bid Process- Champion Risk and Opportunities throughout all aspects of the Bid Submission, by developing risk processes and procedures to improve the integrity of Pre-contract Risk Assessments, Risk Registers and Risk Management Plans.- Interrogate tender submissions for Risks and Opportunities and provide recommendations to senior management on the Risk provisions to made.- Responsible for managing the Handover of Successful Tenders to Operational Teams- Ongoing support to Operational Teams, to understand decisions made at Tender time.- Liaise with operational teams to get feedback on ongoing projects to aid with future tender pricing.

Auckland Prison Ppp - Bid - 300 Million Nzd

Commercial Manager and Deputy Bid Manager for the D+C Bid for Auckland Prison Project PPPWorking with an extremely professional group of people my responsibilities include: Commercial Lead on behalf of the D+C Contractor, Reporting to the Senior Management team and SPV (Next Step Partners) - in relation to the negotiations of the Project Agreement, D+C Subcontract and Interface Agreements – liaising, negotiating, appointing and paying all Consultants and subcontractors (this includes Lead Designers, Insurance Advice, and Ghost Operators) - Control of the bid budget.This PPP also involves the completion of a Enabling Works Contract, to create a level platform for the construction of the new Prison. This contract follows the principles and contractual framework of a full PPP. I am responsible for all Commercial activities in relation to the contract.

• The development of the project budget and cost codes including input into the procurement of major work packages and maintenance of procurement registers.• Procurement of subcontractors and suppliers from initial tender to final account stage including processing of monthly claims and maintenance of subcontractor and supplier registers.• Oversea all Administration of accounting, creditors, weekly payroll and purchasing procedures.• Implementation and management of POS electronic purchase order system and Workflow electronic invoice processing system.• Implementation and maintenance of the cost management data base tool and Candy to provide accurate cash flows, budget maintenance, variation management, earned value reporting and cost forecasting. This will include establishment of cost reporting and accrual processes to integrate with PA.• Management and tracking of Head Contract progress claim submissions.• Responsibility for the compilation and submission of project variations and provisional sum claims and updating of the project budget in the context of the Measure and Value contract.• Monitor and report the project costs against budget and advise the Project Manager and his reports of current and projected variances and forecast final project outcome.• Regular reporting of general progress/issues etc to the Project Manager including formal monthly financial reports.• Preparation, implementation and review of Project Administration Management Plan.

Mackays To Peka Peka Alliance (M2Pp)- Wellington

The Mackays to Peka Peka project (M2PP) is part of The Wellington Northern Corridor Improvements. This $630-million project consists of 18km of four-lane expressway with 9 significant bridges through the areas of Paraparaumu and Waikanae. Construction will take approximately four years to complete and the new route will improve safety, reduce congestion and provide more reliable journey times in and through Kapiti.Due to an overseas appointment I was asked to step in as interim commercial manager to setup the project on behalf of Fletcher’s on a Fly in/Fly Out basis. Whilst maintaining another project in Auckland.This involved: • Working closely with the IT team setting up the Commercial Systems and work breakdown Structures for the project• Completing handovers with the estimating teams• Interviewing, recruiting and appointing• Training new employee’s• Leading all commercial strategies.• Establishing a suite of commercial proforma’s for use on the project• Establishing project budgets for various sections of work.• 6 week handover to the new commercial manager to ensure smooth transition.

MSPJV - Te-Mihi Geothermal Plant – $ 650 Million– TaupoContact Energy awarded the largest and first NZ EPC project, for the development the new 166MW Te Mihi geothermal power station to a consortium of joint venture partners including McConnell Dowell, SNC Lavalin Power (Pacific) Inc, and Parsons Brinckerhoff New Zealand, together known as the MSP JV.My primarily responsibility was for the tendering, evaluation, negotiation, and appointment, of all subcontractors across all Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and ICA sectors. Due to the fast track programme this resulted in the appointment of over 70 subcontractors over a 10 month period, with a combined value of over $150 Million with individual contracts up to $18 Million in value.Other responsibilities include: dealing with variations to the Main Contract and subcontractor activities, ordering of “Engineering Plant”, liaising with all site staff in relation to site activities and the preparation of variation claims, reporting to senior management on progress and appointments, indentifying potential risks, liaising with design teams though the tendering and appointment process, liaison with programming teams in advising subcontractor works activities and timeframes, maintaining relationships with all subcontractors and potential subcontractors., dealing with disputes, Site inductions..

The Safe link Alliance was valued at $750 Million and was an alliance between BMD/Leighton/Mausall/ARUP for the upgrade of a Ipswich Motorway and intersection, on the South West Side of BrisbaneAs TiC to the Commercial Manager, my role was to set the contract up in the accounting system by working with the estimators and construction teams by breaking the job down into cost codes and cost centres. My primary role was then to ensure accurate forecasting and budgeting was carried out for the life of the contract, for the ALT (Alliance Leadership Team). Additional Responsibilities include :- Assessment and management of the Gainshare regimes.- Assistance in production of the Contract Claims.- Negotiation of Sub-Alliances for Surfacing, Piling and Aggregates and the preparation of Contracts- Liaison with estimators in regards to the initial target cost (ITC)My only reason for leaving BMD was for personal reasons – between leaving Works Infrastructure in NZ and starting with BMD I meet my current partner who was unable to leave NZ.

Auckland Construction were predominately involved in road construction and rehabilitation work in and around the Auckland District. Whilst at WORKS I was responsible for managing two construction Divisions of over 20 direct employees working on :- Pukekohe Mega Centre $7 Million – Earthworks (30,000m3), Import of 36,000m3 of Aggregate for Car Park Construction (800 Bays). Extension of Floodway, Access Roads and all Ancillary Works.- Manuaku Area Wide Treatments 06/07 $2Million – Upgrade and rehabilitation of 10 Roads in Manuaku. - Various New Road Construction and Infrastructure Upgrades at New Zealand Steel – $5 Million- Manuaku Area Wide Treatments 05/06 $1.5Million – Upgrade and rehabilitation of 8 Roads in Manuaku. - Pukekohe Mega Centre Enabling Works $2 Million - Earthworks (15,000m3) and Floodway Construction.

Whilst on the Alliance I was commercially responsible for up to 25 projects ranging in size from £100k to £19 Million at any one time I was given increasing responsibility to the point where I was preparing, negotiating, and agreeing target Costs prior to contract awards. As well as being responsible for producing Valuations, Applications to the client, the production and monitoring of Budgets and Final Accounts. I was also actively involved on a day-to-day basis in so far as monitoring costs and the appointment and management of Subcontractors, from enquiry through to Final Accounts. (Including Frameworks and Sub-partner agreements).
