I have been the Member of Parliament for the north Worcestershire constituency of Wyre Forest, comprising the towns of Kidderminster, Stourport on Severn and Bewdley, as well as the outerlying rural communities. During that time, I have served on the Treasury Select Committee and the Parliamentary Commission on Banking Standards, the International Trade Committee, the Energy Security and Net Zero Committee, and chaired the Committee on Arms Export Control.

My role as the Minister for Investment at the Department for International Trade covered all aspects of foreign direct investment into the UK, as well as helping business expand overseas. In addition, I looked after all our overseas networks, much of our UK regional delivery and many uk industry sectors, including financial services, the automotive sector, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, the bio-economy, food and drink, education, retail, creative industries and sports industries.

CGR Capital LLP is a small start-up hedge fund manager. My main contribution there was to be the sole architect of the innovative trading model, that utilised a systematic, quant trading strategy looking at (primarily) US capital market events as the trading trigger.The model was a success in that it returned significant returns for the period that it was being live tested, and my role continued to monitor the ongoing success and to update the strategies as new opportunities were presented.In addition, my 20 years senior investment banking experience was used to drive the regulatory process of CGR and to run the ongoing compliance functions; to set and monitor the management targets of the firm; to produce research reports on the success of the funds; and to set up and run the administration of the main fund (Cetacea Capital) and the client managed accounts.After I left in June this year, my two partners continued the business continuing (I beleive) to utilise the main strategy.

I ran two multi-managed hedge funds from London and then Gloucestershire before setting up my own, very small fund. These funds concentrated on events based trading on global equity markets and the research into predictability of equity events led to the principal trading model at the the start of CGR Capital.

I worked on the global emerging market 'country fund' desk within the equity division of this US investment bank

I was based in the London office of E DeR Securities where I worked on the Emerging Market country fund desk. IN this capacity I was looking after proffesional investors into the closed ended 'counrty fund' market, both offering investment advice and execution services. In addition, I helped lead the launch of the Bulgaria Fund, the first of its type for the newly independant state of Bulgaria.

I ran the Asian (non Japan) equity and equity derivative division of this leading Japanese investment bank in London, building their institutional client base in both London and mainland europe.

I was responsible for the setting up (including gaining regulatory approval) of this London HQ for the HK based South China Brokerage Group. Whilst running this succesful business for 6 years, I not only leveraged the existing business model for South China amongst UK and European institutional clients, but also added significant unique earnings streams.

I worked on the SE Asian equity and equity derivative sales desk, opening up new opportunities for SBCI in mainland Europe.
