    Led 360 Officers and Sailors in the operation and maintenance of a billion dollar, multi-mission AEGIS Cruiser and a two helicopter aviation detachment. As described in the excerpt (attached below) from the book Pirate Alley, I was the On Scene Commander when the Motor Vessel FAINA and its cargo of munitions were captured by Pirates off the coast of Somalia. Our mission was to ensure no onboard munitions were transferred ashore, protect Motor Vessel FAINA and hostage crew from Somali terrorist threats and enable the safe release of the 20 hostages. Additionally, while deployed to the Gulf of Oman, we disrupted 2 Pirate attacks and captured sixteen Pirates. Obtained funding and coordinated a five month, ten million dollar shipyard maintenance availability that arrested severe aluminum structural deficiencies and ensured VELLA GULF executed her new Ballistic Missile Defense mission and designed thirty year service life.
