About Mark Giblin
MY JOURNEY:I have always had a curious passion for food in the sense of traceability and provenance. This is what led me post university to look for roles that focused on the food value chain. Taking a role within Agrii UK’s marketing team allowed me to understand the challenges and VUCA environment that UK growers and agronomists faced to produce good quality crops; sufficient yields with the correct inputs – certainly not an easy task! This is where my ‘spark’ for ensuring to consider the triple bottom line and the benefit of partnerships in business decisions was ignited! The experience I gained from my time within procurement and supply chain was invaluable. Why? It helped me improve communication; working cross cultures and appreciating the importance of working with forecasters and buyers to deliver the best product on time in full to achieve seamless customer experience. I am eager to keep learning whilst working – my wife calls me mad but jokes aside in a world that is increasingly complex it is important to do all I can to tackle the complex challenges that lie ahead so that my son and his children can live in a world that is not detrimentally impacted. Family is my main motivator and driver to become a better professional, father and husband. In 2020 I started an MBA to learn and appreciate the VUCA world through a more holistic lens.MY MBA JOURNEY:The MBA taught me more about resilience and learning from those around you through being transparent about knowledge gaps and vulnerabilities, it developed my strategic lens. Before I saw strategy as the 'answer' in the sense if there was a strategy this must be adhered to and followed step by step. However, strategy is only a draft. It needs to remain a continuous adaptation and reviewed continuously with open mind thinking with no bias to remain contextual. A good strategy has coherence, co-ordination and clear understanding of the resources and capabilities a team have to their disposal.MY FUTURE?Since my son was born (early 2022) I have the drive and hunger to be a part of something that drives systematic change. This is crucial for me moving forward. Acting with transparency, best intentions with a greater understanding of our actions is an important element of any role, culture or organisation moving forward. I'm not perfect, I'm not the finished article but I'm willing to learn, adapt and remain curious about how we can use business and profit as vehicle to make society better.Please feel free to reach out to understand whether I could help you on your sustainability journey.
