I am a sociologist with interests cutting across politics, philosophy, journalism and media. My forthcoming book Digital Life (Polity) contends that what it means to live ethically and politically is realised through and not in spite of the messy, compromised experience of the digital. I've also recently published a textbook, Media and Everyday Life (Palgrave Macmillan); a research monograph, Media and the Experience of Social Change: The Arab World (Rowman & Littlefield); and a co-edited collection with Scott Rodgers, Conditions of Mediation: Phenomenological Perspectives on Media (Peter Lang). Previously I've researched and written about war reporting, media and public engagement, protest cultures, humanitarianism, celebrity, social media and media phenomenology. Teaching: I teach on a variety of undergraduate modules including Journalism and British Life, The Politics of Culture, Media and Conflict and Research Methods.
