I am an Adjunct Associate Professor in the School of Medicine and Health Science at The George Washington University. Along with Drs. Neal Sikka and Andrew Meltzer, I co-developed curriculum materials for the “Mobile Health Care: Innovations in Telemedicine,” “Innovations in Healthcare,” and “Clinical Practice Innovation and Entrepreneurship” courses, respectively. I have lectured on topics related to biomedical and clinical research and development, healthcare innovation, data science and health informatics, regulatory process, and health tech commercialization for a decade. This work led to the creation of the Health Experiential Design Studio (HealthXDS), which leveraged advancements in medicine, technology, and design to 10X healthcare access. HealthXDS launched Health Desk, a series of popup clinics in DC Wards 7 and 8 to provide free health services to community participants.At an administrative level, I have worked with The GW Medical Faculty Associates (MFA) C-level leadership to formulate an executive operations and expansion strategy for the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Department of Ophthalmology, based on a comprehensive data-driven statistical analysis of viability and efficiency in all 17 MFA locations. I have authored and worked on funded grant proposals, including the DC Department of Health Care Finance Wards 7 and 8 Telehealth Development and Application grant. At the invitation of the Office of the Vice President for Research, I co-hosted a faculty salon on applications of VR and AR to future medicine, titled: “Hyperreal Healthcare: Building a Foundation for Immersive Medicine." In 2016, I was a General Chair for the International Workshop on Big Data Analytics for Smart and Connected Health. I have authored 20 peer-reviewed publications with 2,500+ citations and an h-index of 19.

I was a Co-Founder, Advisor, and Managing Partner of FastRope Labs, a product research, design, and development firm based in Washington, DC. We embraced first principles reasoning and human centered design to drive positive social impact at a global scale, leveraging expertise in artificial intelligence, blockchain technology, augmented and virtual reality, and the internet of things. With our partners, we tackled huge problems with equally audacious vision, including ending human trafficking, 10Xing charitable giving, extending healthcare access to all, and increasing wind power capacity with limited capital expenditure. Our products and services were used by thousands of people for global innovators, non-profits, and government agencies, such as Gensler, Upside Travel, Envision Energy, Mohegan Sun Resort & Casino, Keurig, Verité, Network for Good, Bloomberg Philanthropies, the US State Department, DC Government, and the City of Boston. I was the Director of Product Management for Platforms and Health Innovations at Alarm.com, the nation’s largest smart home provider, with 2.5+ million IoT cloud service customers and over 5 million users, spanning interactive security, energy management, video monitoring, intelligent automation, and wellness applications. In my role, I advised and reported directly to C-level executives during the initial public offering (IPO) period overseeing a cross-functional team spanning design, engineering, operations and supply chain management, marketing, sales, and customer success roles. I spearheaded the design, engineering, manufacturing, and market release of strategic hardware and software special projects and platforms, including low-power wireless sensors, 4G cellular-enabled hubs, software backend services, and frontend web, Android, and iOS user experiences. Two projects under my management were designated as the company’s highest product priorities post-IPO, and I guided their launch in under 18 months, including the creation of a global manufacturing supply chain and an international product roadmap for the NA, LATAM, EMEA, and APAC regions. I joined the company pre IPO, architecting and shepherding the seamless integration of BeClose into Alarm.com. Alarm.com Wellness was a top five business focus of the company and was presented in testimony to the United States Senate Special Committee on Aging.

I was a Co-Founder and the Head of Technology and Product at BeClose, a digital health company, which promoted healthy, independent living with custom IoT hardware and AI-powered cloud services. In my role, I worked to secure over $5 million in funding, shape the company's vision and strategy, recruit an amazing team, prioritize research and development initiatives, build a robust intellectual property portfolio, architect the technology and AI, design the product, oversee engineering and operations, evaluate customer success metrics, support public health studies, and cultivate healthcare distribution to drive growth.Through independent research commissioned by Canadian provincial health authorities from New Brunswick to Alberta, and a CMS CMMI grant, BeClose and its partners successfully demonstrated $1,200 to $5,000 monthly cost reductions per patient, with improved patient health and safety in aged populations with mobility and cognitive impairment. Furthermore, combining BeClose with an evidence-based health coaching model, BeClose and Brewster Place demonstrated a 79% reduction in hospital readmissions rate (3.8%) compared to 30-day all-cause readmissions (17.8%). These findings led to full reimbursement of our offering by numerous provincial health and Medicaid Waiver programs in Canada and the US, respectively. BeClose also partnered with high profile private payors, such as United Healthcare, and large providers, including Partners HealthCare and Dartmouth-Hitchcock health care system, to realize better care for individuals, better health for populations, and lower per capita cost. Frost & Sullivan recognized BeClose as one of the most significant innovations disrupting healthcare, and BeClose received coverage in TechCrunch, Fast Company, Gigaom, VentureBeat, The New York Times, CNN, NPR, and USA Today. Announced at CES in January 2014, BeClose merged with its technology partner and investor, Alarm.com, becoming Alarm.com Wellness.

I was a Founding Member and Lead Researcher of the University of Virginia Center for Wireless Health and the INERTIA research group. I was one of our Department’s first students to attack fundamental problems at the boundary of the clinical sciences and engineering, now a major University initiative, and I held research assistantships in both engineering and medicine. I designed wearable sensors for diagnostic assessment and treatment optimization of movement disorders and related neurological conditions, such as Parkinson’s and essential tremor, normal pressure hydrocephalus, multiple sclerosis, and mild traumatic brain injury. I created TEMPO, a clinical technology that has been utilized in neurosurgical, psychiatric, and orthopedic clinical applications at major health institutions, including the UVA Health System and Carilion Clinic. Notably, TEMPO was applied by the UVA Health System’s Department of Neurosurgery to optimize deep brain stimulation therapies in patients presenting with severe tremor. My research was initially bootstrapped, but in less than six years, our group’s success demonstrating an iterative approach to engineering design that tightly coupled to clinical trials with direct patient interactions, resulted in millions of dollars in grant funding to the Center for Wireless Health and the INERTIA research group from NIH, NSF, and corporate sponsors, such as Philips Research North America. My work produced over a dozen peer-reviewed publications, received numerous awards, and was covered by Computer magazine, Healthcare IT News, and Medgadget.
