Production Engineer - Paint ShopMitsubishi Motors Jan 2001 - May 2013Responsible for the formulation and implementation of a variety of projects, including model change, energy savings, and process improvements. Worked in concert with contractors or various trades as well as maintenance in seeing projects to their completion. Projects included:>Installation of new RF reader systems on both fascia and body conveyors.>Hiring of specialists and assisting with particulate emissions testing as well as transfer efficiency testing to adhere to environmental guidelines. Passed semi-annual testing for five years with the IEPA as a visual emissions monitor.>Installation of new Fanuc robotic cells and their integration into existing equipment.>Rebuild of all of the spray booths with new eliminators, zipper baffles, and exhaust fans.>Installation of PLC controls to existing booth panels and enacting an energy conservation mode.>Design, fabrication, and installation of new details for dollies, carriers, transfers, and lifters for each new model launch. Highlight was the launch of the ZC platform, where I self-performed all engineering and design for this changeover. With internal labor, completed all conveyor work using only $81k of a $1.4 million budget.>Design and implementation of equipment to monitor and adjust gap & flush on the door to fender fit.>Relocation of bulk E-coat system from suppliers satellite to our facility.>Performed preliminary testing, selected supplier, and worked closely with mfg in launching LASD as a replacement for melt sheet technology.>Launch of spot repair program, which included working with consultant on training of associates, panel testing, durability checks, project launch, and elimination of our Repair Coat booth and oven.>All civil work in laying foundations and installing Durr RTO system for a new abatement system.>Variety of process improvements in the layout of conveyors to streamline process flow through shop.

Became heavily involved in conveyor systems and the activities required to properly maintain them. Took chain wear readings semi-annually and determined needs to change pins or entire chains. Took conveyor rail density readings on our pretreatment/E-coat chains and scheduled rail repairs and/or replacements as required. Organized all work required to maintain shuttles and transfers. Set up spare parts wagons and wrote PM's to give the proper attention to each piece of equipment. Assigned internal manpower or outsourced manpower as required to accomplish all work.

Heavily involved in the day to day operations of seeing a quality product leave the paint shop with minimal downtime. Determined needs for off-shift repairs as well as the organization of weekend and shutdown projects to keep equipment in optimal condition. Determined manpower needs and was also responsible for hiring many new associates and promoting new supervisors.

Involved in numerous kaizen activities to improve product flow and elimination downtime. Assisted in the launching of our spare parts system. Was instrumental in determining spare parts requirements, obtaining quotes, and ordering. Worked as liaison between staff and associates in supporting all launch activities. Spent one month in Nagoya, Japan learning Mitsubishi's maintenance methodology. Launched 2nd shift maintenance crew in September, 1988 as lead associate and launched 3rd shift maintenance crew in May, 1989 as supervisor.
