Mark Heeren (1984) started his study Mechanical Engineering at the Fontys University for professional education. In 2005 he obtained his bachelor degree of engineering, BEng (ing.) with his thesis “Verroest, het corrodeerd niet” which dealt about the theoretical principles and practical solutions to prevent corrosion on pipeline tubes during storage and transport.Directly after obtaining his Bachelor degree he continued to study at the Eindhoven University of Technology (TUe) to pursue a master degree.During his internship at the Eindhoven University of Technology he did research in the group of prof. Geers (Computational and Experimental Mechanics, Mechanics of Materials) on strain dependent damage effects for high strength steels. During this internship Mark decided to do his graduation work within this same group.His Master Thesis was done in cooperation with Polymer Vision, a Philips Spin-off. The research done for this thesis consisted of testing and specifying the visco-elastic properties of polymer films. In addition to this a material model for finite element (FE) analysis and the actual FEM analysis where done to predict long term visco-elastic material. This resulted in a master thesis entitled “The relaxation behavior of a rollable display.” and subsequently a Master of Science (MSc) degree (Ir.).After graduation Mark started his career with TMC Mechanical, an intermediary, who outsourced him to TNO within the business unit Holst Centre. This part of TNO specializes in electronics on low cost substrates. Marks work here consisted of testing polymer films and glues. Implementing material models and do prediction and lifetime simulations using FEM. A minor part of his work here was designing new ways to obtain flexibility and stretchability from film materials.In 2011 Mark switched to Mecal SPD, a company specialized in design and FEM for the semiconductor industry. On request of ASML he was a Mechanical Analyst on the ASML campus between 2011 - 2013.
