After 11 years leading one of America's great law firms as Managing Partner, I now lead our firm's Legal Ethics and Professional Responsibility practice, drawing on my combined experience in legal ethics and professional responsibility, the practical aspects of law firm governance and management, and leading major litigation to build and expand on service to law firm, law department and lawyer clients with advice and opinions concerning professional responsibility, training, expert witness services, mediation and arbitration and legal malpractice representation. I do this while also being part of our in-house general counsel team at Stinson. To support ethics with information, I now publish a twice monthly column by email to a national audience, "Dear Ethics Lawyer." This column presents concise, hopefully interesting ethics questions, with real world answers under the Model Rules. I have presented more than 125 ethics CLEs. I have served as the national chair of the American College of Trial Lawyers' Attorney-Client Relationships Committee. I served as general counsel of our firm. And since the year 2000, I have been a co-founder, writer and presenter of "Ethics For Good." This annual stage show presented at two venues in June uses humor, skits and real world scenarios to teach legal ethics to lawyers. All proceeds (about $850,000 so far) go to charities and legal scholarships. Typically more than 500 lawyers attend annually, with an ensemble cast of lawyers and judges. Great fun, ethics content with continuing legal education credit, lively crowds, and money used for good - what could be better?
