In my time at Flexera I have taken on a variety of roles in different teams, but one of the key highlights would be being one of the driving forces behind the development of the FlexNet Embedded cross platform, cross language solution, from big picture through to driving the architecture of the client SDK and server part of the solutions. A particular focus was the approach to designing our API, which allowed for low footprint (memory/storage) embedded devices, through to devising a strategy for supporting Java and C# with the underlying C++/C solution.Supporting the continued development and addition of new features in creative ways to continue to improve and reshape according to new business demands or technical constraints has kept the work varied and interesting, ranging from devising strategies to keep the code footprint small and efficient for embedded devices, through to providing a higher level API for general purpose platforms such as Windows, Linux, Mac and Solaris in C++, C, Java and C#.Security of the end to end licensing ecosystem to defend against attempts to exploit licensing by a wide range of attacks from operating system intervention, digital signature attacks, through to binary manipulation of applications has been of particular interest and allowed development of a great deal of unconventional and creative approaches to secure against tampering.I have been a trusted advisor to product management and engineering management through this time, both in coming up with creative solutions to customer problems, as well as proposing and devising new product features.I have also been asked to provide guidance to a wide variety of teams on a wide variety of topics from high level architecture through to low level approaches.Whatever my role has been in the company, I have always remained hands on to a large extent, aiming to improve my skill set in software architecture, design and programming in C++, C and Python.
