Regional It Director/Network Engineer
CurrentAt Utah Education and Telehealth Network (UETN/UEN), our vision is to reduce the educational digital divide through ideas that began right here in our little community and have gained traction across the country. In 2018, our own, Jason Eyre at Murray School District, a dear friend and mentor, started the idea of extending the classroom to students at home using CBRS before the pandemic. This project has exploded with national and international attention no one expected. Schools and organizations across the country have been following our lead ever since. We are changing the future of education, not just in our communities but across the country. As a member of Utah’s visionary leadership team, I’m building and testing use cases of extending the classroom to where students are located with CBRS and Wifi. Our Private LTE and 5G (CBRS) network continues to grow and expand across the school districts in the state. We are pushing eduroam across rural K12 schools and sites to staff and even some students. My passion is wireless technologies and building ways that wireless can improve our world. My specific role with these projects has evolved to a leadership role in directing new use cases from the across the stack with our LTE Core, a demo 5G SA Core, pushing the RAN, UE, and Edge, to exploring and teaching about Wi-Fi 6e, eduroam, and OpenRoaming. I personally have met with and helped CTO and Product Managers, who are respected wireless industry leaders, to better understand how Private LTE is changing education.I served as Interim IT Director for Daggett School District from Fall 2021-Spring 2022 as part of my regular responsibilities. My regular day job responsibilities at NUES, a subsidy of UETN, are to lead and direct Network and Security Engineering with nine rural School Districts and five Charter Schools covering 33,500+ Students, Educators, and Staff.

CurrentMawhinney Enterprises owns two small businesses: a popular local restaurant, Dairy Keen - Home of the Train, and a small motel, Swiss Alps Inn.I direct the implementation of all technology projects at the restaurant and motel. My job has been to assess the business needs with budget constraints and develop a company wide technology plan based on industry best practices and security measures.Designed, purchased, and built all technology systems from firewalls, business and guest wired and wireless networks, motel property management system, restaurant point of sale system, camera and door systems, and protected company systems and customer private information and credit card data. Technology systems have improved business operations including the implementation of a PMS for online guest reservations for the motel and iPad POS system to improve drive up operations at the onset of COVID-19 shutdowns for the restaurant. I have been actively working to develop a strong web brand for both businesses. Built all company websites and social networks. I have participated strongly in marketing towards our customers through these sites and maintain our online presence, along with interacting with our over 4,000 Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter fans.http://www.swissalpsinn.comhttp://www.dairykeen.com
Operations And Human Resource Manager
Mawhinney Enterprises, Inc. owns two small businesses: a restaurant, Dairy Keen - Home of the Train, and a small motel, Swiss Alps Inn. During my time working in this position at the Dairy Keen, business grew dramatically as we saw increases in sales and positive customer feedback, including being voted "Best of State" for either/both hamburgers and shakes every year since 2003 through the present. This position at my family's business started me in understanding business operations and management. Originally, I started in operations of cooking hamburgers and making shakes at the Dairy Keen as well as cleaning the pool and helping the maids with preparing rooms at the Swiss Alps Inn motel. I then moved to working more with the managing of operations and HR side of the business. I worked in managing 8-10 employees, helped with interviewing and training of new hires, as well as helped in terminating employees. I worked as a shift manager and handled customer complaints and concerns, and helped find areas where we could improve operations and reduce customer wait times without sacrificing quality of our products.
Network And Security Support Technician
Pinnacle Technologies is a Restaurant Point of Sale hardware and software dealer. In our small office of six, three of who were technicians, the owners (the other two technicians) relied on me extensively to handle the support calls from hundreds of clients, to manage projects, and to run their office; freeing them to focus on and finalize sales, to build relationships with clients and vendors, and to grow and run their business. As technicians, we worked in teams as well as on solo projects with little supervision.I worked for Pinnacle for two and a half years then returned after a nine month break, with new insights and ideas on how to streamline operations, exploit the expansion of mobility throughout the industry, and improve customers' systems and security following PCI-DSS guidelines. During my years at Pinnacle, the industry experienced an explosion in mobile device usage by our clients and expansion into larger clients and systems. Restaurants saw a wave in table side ordering, and Apple and Android devices lead the transition for the mobility movement. I used my knowledge of Network Engineering and RF spectrum to create solid corporate networks to handle and secure all the data being processes by these systems.Growth opportunities received national recognition, including press about the Tram at Hanauma Bay in Honolulu, Hawaii; the Sapphire Gentlemen's Club in Las Vegas, Nevada; and a growing chain, Kneaders Bakery, that went from 8 stores to 30+ stores while I was at Pinnacle. Additionally, a personal project at Pinnacle received recognition in a national restaurant magazine, after I installed the first Apple iPad devices as a POS Register in the State of Utah in 2010, just months after its initial release.http://www.pinnacletechdd.com
Web Developer, Social Media Developer, And Information Systems Coordinator
WhiteCap Institute is a dental implant training center that specializes in training for general dentists. While at WCI, I coordinated with a company to developed a portal based store front for dental implant supplies using a proprietary shopping cart and CMS. I developed the design, layout, and interactive functionality of the site in HTML, CSS, and Javascript then the third party company used my files to create a skin for their CMS and shopping cart. The store front provides alumni with an ease of use location to purchase supplies.I worked with management and the design team to assess strengths and weaknesses of the current websites and to determine future opportunities and needs required in a redesign of the company websites. I managed the process through the SDLC guidelines and developed new company websites design and functionality with WordPress CMS as the back end. I finished the development of the custom theme and functionality and was waiting on content from my superiors when my employment ended with the company for personal and political reasons. Management decided to not use the new designs. Before redesigning the website, I worked to update the content and the layout to reflect the company's current direction as the websites show. Maintained the company's web presence on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube to create a uniform public view of the business.Supported company technology infrastructure and looked for ways in which technology could help achieve business goals or improve productivity for assistants and doctors. Coordinated and supported all the IT needs of the company including organizing VoIP phones, Cloud Services (SalesForce.com and Google Apps), Mac OSX usage with Parallels virtual machines, and network design.
Computer Technician
Pinnacle Technologies is a Restaurant and Retail Point of Sale dealer. I worked as a computer technician, security specialist, and web developer. As a technician, I helped lead an internal movement to improve the security of our clients' systems in regards to PCI Compliance regulations imposed upon the industry, especially in helping our clients understand the importance of being compliant. I performed a risk analysis on the company's LAN as well as client's networks and made suggestions for improvement. I learned and taught other technicians and clients best practices including host hardening, firewall implementations, Windows group policy, data encryption, user access policies, bio-metric fingerprint scanners, and physical system security.I worked in a rotation of 24/7 on-call remote and on-site support for our clients. This included working on computer hardware repair, networking administration, security, Microsoft Windows operating systems installation, and maintenance of our proprietary software, Digital Dining POS.When I started working for Pinnacle, the company website was a static, underutilized, thrown together brochure with only the basics of what we offered. I redesigned and upgraded the site to be more than just a brochure. I developed the website using WordPress CMS. Coming from a background in the restaurant industry, I designed the website with customer support and SEO practices in mind. I researched keywords for our specific niche, then integrated those keywords into the site with a focus on what would be beneficial to the customer. My work in redesigning and SEO leaded to an increase in sales and interest of the products, as the company shifted from a focus on being mainly a Restaurant POS dealer to including Retail POS and Digital Video Security for POS systems to our product list. http://www.pinnacletechdd.com
