As the Lead Security Consultant for Barclays' Hadoop and Big Data programmes I was the primary point of contact for a team of 5 SMEs, meeting the needs of multiple business units and their stakeholders. I delivered strategic security architecture as well as design and operations consultancy for Barclays’ multiple Cloudera Hadoop clusters and other “big data” technologies such as SAS Grid and MongoDB. The business use cases include data warehousing, operational data stores and both batch and interactive data analytics, each bringing their own distinct set of business and security requirements.Engagements spanned the whole project lifecycle, from proof of concepts through to production assurance and BAU changes, and my personal involvement similarly ranged from initial security requirements analysis through to risk analysis, solution design, implementation assurance, debugging and problem solving. This involved meeting both internal and external regulations, such as PCI DSS.
