Title: Permit Engineer/ Environmental Health and Safety AssistantIn my most recent role I was responsible for the Health and Safety of 70 staff at West Burton Power Station, ensuring strict Client Safety Rules on Plant and Apparatus were adhered to at all times.My responsibilities included:• Assessing the safety of work to be carried out on site such as maintenance, hot work, excavations and work at height then preparing and granting permits• Maintaining safety and integrity of the plant by carrying out regular inspections and safety behavioural audits as well as interrogating work order cards and method statements• Working closely and cooperatively with sub-contractors once work was initiated, ensuring best practice was followed on all projects, carrying out joint inspections and resolving any issues together • Producing accurate and informative reports on health and safety issues, addressing and resolving any issues through ongoing safety improvement program• Carrying out regular audits of procedures such as risk assessments to ensure employees and sub-contractors were compliant with Management and legal requirements • Developing strong communication skills through regular presentation opportunities, e.g. co-presenting an Environmental Health and Safety interactive statistics workshop at Rugby and Torness• Leading investigations into accidents on a number of sites, establishing the root cause then implementing protective and preventative measures to avoid reoccurrenceKey Achievements• Gaining respect and trust of colleagues – I was elected by my peers to represent them through various employee consultations such as the TUPE from GE to Hargreaves Industrial Services and proposed changes to benefits package • I instigated a thorough investigation of the management system in relation to health and safety, then compiled and presented findings to senior stakeholders, highlighting deficiencies and proposing solutions, ensuring changes were implemented
