Like every little kid who plays sports, I was convinced that my only destiny was to be a professional athlete. It was always my dream until when I was 14 I suffered an OCD lesion in both of my knees, leaving me unable to play sports and unable to continue my dream. Hearing my doctor tell me that I would not be able to play basketball again crushed the inner kid inside of me but I quickly realized when one door closes another one opens. Being around doctors and physical therapists, for some many years of my young life created a passion in my to want to be a part of what they were doing. I got to see how much these people help other and how transformational a good doctor can be for one's life and created a burning passion in me to do the same. Ever since, being a doctor is all I’ve ever wanted to do. My passion for helping others and wanting to improve health drives me to work hard and dedicate myself to any task I set to accomplish. So far I have taken steps to improve health by conducting Biomaterials research in the Spiller Lab at Drexel University where I studied how the size of curcumin-loaded PLGA particles affects macrophage phenotype recruitment in cells. Currently, I am working in the Jonason Lab at the University of Rochester where I am studying interventions in the biological pathways that lead to osteoarthritis in the aging population.
